Sorry about that Criptfiend, had it written up in an earlier draft - added back in. You now have a new location to absorb essence from.

Cool. I think there's still an infinite loop to take all available space for free via taking land and giving it back, generating more and more land. But I guess since it doesn't generate infinite fate that's okay? Or at least, not as much of an issue, so long as the players aren't too greedy to take all the lands.

Begin turn:
+1 Fate from GM
+1 Mud Essence from previous turn
+1 Energy
Terrain - Deconstruct Wall:
C2
Influence - Expand Personal Influence: C2 (-1 energy -1 dungeon unclaimed space +1 fate)
Influence - Expand Personal Influence: B4 (-1 energy -1 dungeon unclaimed space +1 fate)
Essence - Combine Basic Essence: Combine Earth with Celestial (using fate) (-1 earth essence -1 fate)

Dungeon inventory -2 dungeon unclaimed space.

To the other players, I didn't use any dungeon energy this turn because I sorta don't want it to become some sort of "first come, first served" resource. I'm hoping instead that we can work out a plan and use for it, that helps everyone. My proposal is that we use it dig new lands, mostly. Also maybe use it to grab E4... Although it'll do that on it's turn... I just want to grab e4 and give it to the dungeon to generate more fate for myself. :P

If we can't agree with what to do with it, I'd propose we at least share it equally though. Which might also just be a better plan then trying to come up with uses for it.

Begin turn:

Absorb Essence: "? Essence A"

Influence - Expand Personal Influence: E5 (-1 personal energy)

Essence - Combine Basic Essence: Water and Void (Personal inventory)
Essence - Combine Basic Essence: Water and Celestial (Personal inventory)

Spoiler: Maxine, Gul (click to show/hide)

Cold, exactly what I was looking for.

"Life." Burbles Nurl as it hovers on the edge of the dungeon, looking out at the outside of the dungeon. "I Remember... Life" With a start the pile of mud seems to draw itself together, two motes of energy, one of the deep earth it had absorbed earlier, one coming from deep within itself, shining bright. It moves the motes together, concentrating on trying to remember something.

To the GM: Can we make Tri-essence via Combine Basic Essence: using a "other basic essence" (IE mud) + another core essence? Although If I understand right this might lead to failure, unlike combining core essences which always succeed?

Oh noes ;_; wasn't expecting my heart to wrench for Nurel ;_;

Yes you can! All essences can be used in the creation of tri essences. If you're interested in Tri Essences I can add the action to the next turn!

I am interested primarily in exploring the essence chains, so I was just interested to know if there was a chance that mud+celestial would create anything via "Combine Basic Essence" or if I would have to wait for us to unlock better crafting abilities for tri-essences so I could combine water+earth+celestial all at once before I test if the combination leads to anything.

I somewhat feel like it's probable that I'm barking up the wrong tree here... In fact, I wonder if Infernal+void would be a better bet for life... Maybe if people don't mind I'll nip up a bit of the infernal essence created this turn to test it out. Although fair chance that just turns it back into celestial too... Hmmm.

Clearly I should have taken a goal to combine! Hah... Live and learn. Although, wait, if I did that I'd get no fate, since I'm using fate in the combination, which I think disables fate gain from it via the no fate from fate rules? I feel better if that's the case :P

Well if Void and Celestial is what gets Infernal, I feel Void and Infernal may just get you back Celestial?

I wouldn't complain if you went ahead with it, if I hadn't taken Fire last turn I'd feel greedy enough to try putting Cold and Infernal together.

Zixhil, the Defiler gains 1 Infernal Essence from combining Celestial/Void Essences. Infernal Essence is the essence of malignance and Undeath.
Zixhil, the Defiler has a choice: the first time a spirit creates Infernal Essence they may opt to replace one of their Essence Affinities. Would you like to do so? There is no currently known location to generate this essence, but that may change in time.

The inevitable path taken, but now, a choice lies ahead.

The question now is: Should i do it? i legitimately want others' opinion. Should i switch one of my affinities to Infernal, or just keep the pseudo-affinity for it, by having an affinity for both of it's components?

Also, i want to trade for a Fire Essence. Willing to give any Essence i have. (or Fate, if Fate is tradable :P)

Fixed the action to now be 'combine core essences' as only Earth, Air, Fir, Water, Celestial, Infernal and Void can be combined as Essence + Essence. Sorry for he mixup all ><

Also there is a void and infernal in dungeon inventory, or you can request to trade for it. Void is abundant, after all, and you can make both earth and water which might be coveted by someone.

Hmmm.. I think fate can be tradable. It's kind of like money in that you can buy anything with it ;p

Up to you. If you switch and absorb it, we could turn the 2 sitting in DR into 4. Given we can't produce it otherwise yet, and I figure a few people are going to want it, is possibly worthwhile.

We sadly have no fire on hand right now. Given it is one of the Mantlebearer's affinities, I'm sure it will come back around soon. Can I interest you in 1 Water instead?

Well if Void and Celestial is what gets Infernal, I feel Void and Infernal may just get you back Celestial?

Yeah. Given that, I think I'll wait and see the results of earth+celestial first. Thinking about it too, we know moss gives ??? A, which, I'm going to guess is life, and we know ??? A is a basic essence. So that means it must be made via some combination of 2 core essences? If I'm understanding the mechanics right that is. Given that, earth+celestial doesn't seem too far fetched. Although ??? B (probably stone) doesn't seem like a weird of it either. Although that might be Fire+earth, if I had to guess. Edit: Just realized that I guess ?A might not be basic. Maybe?

The question now is: Should i do it? i legitimately want others' opinion. Should i switch one of my affinities to Infernal, or just keep the pseudo-affinity for it, by having an affinity for both of it's components?

This is certainly going to be a question for you to decide :P, but, for my own input, it does seem like infernal is what you were going for? Right now, we don't know what affinities do fully. If they are only useful for harvesting, you might be better off sticking with void and celestial in the short term, or at least not hurt by it. If they are useful for crafting it feels like you'll probably want infernal to make your undead zone? And later on if you want to harvest a bunch of infernal essence, you probably want to be infernal anyway...

But honestly I wouldn't base my decision on any of that, if I was you, I'd just take it because it's a interesting and special event.

The only issue is that afaik, you're the only celestial (well... Horizon is too but he's not posting every turn) and we have so much void, mechanically it might make sense for you to keep celestial, but, and this would be your taste so I can't tell for sure, but I feel like void+infernal might make more sense thematically. That's not a big deal at all though. We might not need celestial much, and even if we do, we can certainly use fate for it.

Can I interest you in 1 Water instead?

Sadly, no. I want the Fire specifically, for the Celestial + Fire combo. However! If i end up absorbing Celestial this turn, i AM willing to trade some away to you or Cripfiend for the combo of Water + Celestial, which may be very interesting for you. Would either of you want it?

And i think ultimately the question of whether to switch to Infernal comes down to specialization vs. versatility. If i were to switch, i'd replace Void, yeah. Celestial + Infernal affinities would work out thematically fine with some extra character details i had planned.

I'd be willing to do a trade if you want earth or water, but otherwise since I don't have the "combine core essences" goal, I don't really mind using my fate for combinations either. If you want to trade for a fate I'll gladly give it to you though.

On specialization vs versatility if you mean what I think you do, Keep in mind that infernal ALSO has 6 combinations, the same that void has, since it's not just a basic essence, it's still a core one and thus will always have at least some combination with the other 6 core essences, you're not loosing any versatility long term if you switch to it, at least once a source for you to absorb is found, it should have the same amount of versatility that void does, just in different areas.

Up to you. If you switch and absorb it, we could turn the 2 sitting in DR into 4. Given we can't produce it otherwise yet, and I figure a few people are going to want it, is possibly worthwhile.

I think there's some confusion here (mine or yours) my understanding is that we do not absorb from the dungeon resources. That's a separate pool that we share and can use as if it's our own. What we absorb with the absorb action (and thus gain 2 per action) is the "environmental essences" we found from the original Examine Surroundings action. Which gives us a unlimited but presumably small income from absorbing them, if we want.

Did my examination of the stone reveal any results?

It looks like your examination was incorrectly attributed to Snerkel due to what I can only assume is a GM error.

Yes. That was edited in after I asked the question. No problem, I assume it's essence ?B that we now have access too. (Which, I assume is stone essence and will guess it's earth+celestial or earth+fire)

Edit: By the way, I threw a essence spreadsheet together, I'm sure that the GM has their own better version, but just something for us players to keep track of a bit easier. I'll try to keep it updated, but also I made it so anyone can edit it. I'm making an assumption on it that there's no combo of same core+same core, perhaps a dangerous assumption, but one I'll make for now...
