Agree, plus that's about the LAST thing *I* want to see from this kind of game - author spending valuable development time on useless graphics.

In the end, it is a simple matter to have the steward arrange a meeting with his handler. Meeting in a private room of a tavern, the Harkon agent was helpless to resist the enthrallment by the Extractor.

From there it was a short walk to their safe house. The turned handler gave the all clear signal, and the other two agents were quickly enthralled as the Extractor walked into the room.

Their safe house has a nice little trove. Coded letters from the Duke’s Spymaster, Baron Helmoth, which are easily cracked by the controlled agents. A little chest of gold and jewels for bribes. An enchanted dagger, perfect for punching through armor.

The agents before you give a little more information, having been sent here as more a precaution than with a concrete goal in mind. They have rendered aid to various individuals passing through, but nothing indicating anyone taking direct action against the Prince. Amusingly enough they were about to send a letter recommending that you be dealt with or eliminated.

And now you have to decide what to do with them. The Extractor notes that his enthralls are best with a simple command. Complicated commands, especially over a long time, tend to fray and unintended loopholes found.

Your apprentice chimes in and asks why you don’t just keep them permanently enthralled. The Extractor answers first with a grandfatherly grin, that indeed they could, but over time would lead to increasingly erratic behavior and eventually damage to the mind. You add in that your enemies and friends would notice and take note of your capabilities. Mind control is a valuable tool, but it can be prepared against and make you a much higher priority target. Best to keep that tool well hidden and not exposed for minor gains.

That being said, you decide to:

A. Mind control them into being your Agents. All above being said, it would be nice to have a reliable pair of hands.

B. Disappear them. More of a message to the other spymasters that you can take care of business.

C. Something… Creative? Write in for something interesting. Have them publicly murder each other. Have them retire to be gardeners. Have them assassinate a member of the council. Have them fail at assassinating the Prince thanks to your timely rescue.

Disappear them... by erasing their memories and sending them off far away to live as farmers or something.

Sends the same message as killing them and melting their bodies in acid, but with less murder.

You consider the three agents. You personally have no ill will towards them, but they underestimated you. Mistakes can be lethal in this business, but not always.

You tell the Extractor that you see three farmers far away from home before you. The Extractor considers you a moment before nodding in understanding. You place a few coins from the chest into their pockets. Enough to see them to their future home.

Back at the castle, Prince Richard has grown increasingly bored by governing Farona, spending increasing amounts of time on hunts and feasts. Your purge of the most obvious spies drew a little interest, but gossip quickly moved on. You grow your little network of informants quietly, and in the council meetings your request for additional funding is approved. You increase the number of spies and handlers you employ, as well as take some guards you train to be somewhat more discrete in their duties. Respectable enough for a new Count, but still below the tier of operatives that the greater powers can throw around.

You also take note of a talent that you would find useful in your employ. A promise of regular pay and exciting work is enough to convince…

Stella the Thief: You caught her snooping through your quarters (in her defense you have magical wards to alert you.) After confirming she was working independently (Shadowhawks haven’t found her yet), you offer her a job as your sneak.

Bryne the Blade: He fought two knights to a standstill in a drunken brawl. Having blown in from the kingdom of Vestfold and no connections to speak of, you arrange to clear matters up with the knights in exchange for a stint as your muscle.

Velisa the Noble: Charming and personable, Velisa’s family is far too low to set her sights on Prince Richard. You were sent to deter her, but you found yourself charmed and offered her a job. You had the Extractor examine you afterwards for any magical influence, to his great amusement.

As spring winds to an end, an invitation for a Tournament arrives, hosted by the Duke Harkon. The Prince and his Marshal are thrilled, of course. The Prince is considered one of the better lances of the kingdom. Publius the Councillor advises some caution, but avoids saying they should not attend.

What do you advise?
A. Attend! This is a great opportunity!

B. Don’t go, it’s too dangerous to travel to the seat of your rivals power.

C. Say nothing, keep your opinions to yourself.

D. Something else?

Velisa! When charms prove insufficient, it's worth having brute force to fall back on. So to speak.
