You are Stephan the Keen, newly appointed spymaster to Prince Richard, count of Farona.
Of course, you have not risen this far alone. Arranging for your position was the secret organization you are a member of, who are:
A. The Shadowhawks: Gentlemen thieves and rogues, their web of informants and agents are some of the best to be found. The nobility, often being the targets of their heists, find their use to be a necessary evil. Few have access to the amount of blackmail material in their vaults. They avoid bloodshed when possible, not being assassins. Being their agent means having the best thieves in the business at your fingertips, but you have to source opportunities for them as well.
B.The Dark Hand: Professional killers I and blades, they are the assassins of choice for a noble looking for a helpful knife in someone’s back. While their work tends to attract powerful enemies, those who pursue them too vigorously tend to end up disappeared. There is no single leader of the Dark Hand, and the council disputes can quickly turn murderous. Being the agent of black hand ensures that few are safe from your displeasure, having at your beck and call some of the finest killers of the kingdom, but the politics of the Dark Hand are ever sharp.
C. The Order Obscura: The intelligence arm of the Wizard’s College. Called spooks by their more conventional guild mates, the order draws upon a vast reserve of magical talent to protect the college’s place in society. While their agents are few, the magic they wield allows them to be some of the most effective in the field. You of course also have some magical ability with this option. Wizards are of course feared and hated by the common man, and holy artifacts are extremely dangerous to you.
D. The Cruxix Mallorum: A shadowy cult of demon summoners. Theirs is an old tradition, one that has survived this long by being ruthless with its secrets. There are costs to be paid, but for those with the rare mix of will and intelligence there are few better paths to power. Dark powers will answer your call, court vampires, and create artifacts of power. All it will cost ….is your soul! mwhhhhhhaaaa
E. The Templars: Guardians sworn to protect an ancient Temple and the secrets within. They fight against the shadowy creatures of the world and their servants. They have not been passive in their duties, building a network of influence in courts across the land. In battle they wield mystic divine magic and holy artifacts. As a Templar, you have access to vast resources and skilled warriors, but your foes and commitments to your order are many.
Also, do you consider yourself as more of an
Operative: Skilled and trained, you are perfectly capable of going on missions yourself. Nothing like taking care of a job yourself.
Mastermind: While your physical skills maybe lacking compared to the average operative, your mind is sharp and your plotting is second to none. Your network of contacts is wider and intrigues gain a bonus to succeed.
Guess who the bad guys are? :p
While you can pick based on which group sounds the most powerful, no problems with that, but also consider you are also picking what kind of game you are most interested in. A game where you a snooping and thieving with the Shadowhawks is going to be very different from one in which you choose to be a demonic mastermind working from the shadows.
There is no none of the above option intentionally, I think the dual loyalties add something interesting. Let me know if you have any questions, you can write in an order option. (But I’ll probably reject it, but if it fits and I like it I’ll make it a faction in game.)
