Ages and Rulers
« on: July 13, 2007, 07:33:00 pm »

I was looking around the Legends section and found an interesting human. Born on 371, and died 1050. Pretty old for a human, don't you think? He acted pretty normal. Like any other peasant.

There was also a goblin who was born on 0 and died 1051. A goblin old as the world itself. Pretty amazing.

Then when I was bored and shot the King of a Dwarven Fortress, the dwarves beat me up, killed me, and then walked away. Even though the King was still alive, but unconscious, crawling there, trying to survive. They completely ignored him. Funny...

I'm pretty sure this is a known bug, where creatures are generated, and then ignore their lifespans and go on living forever -- until killed of course.

Yeah, you are talking about details. That must be very hard to code.

Suggestion for a fix:
Every spring, a roll will be done on all living creatures.

Chance to die is age*x-y

For humans
x=3
y=80
If the roll fails, a random timer between now and the end of the year is set, and then the creature will die.

The only humans I've ever encountered that were older than their max age were undead.  The reason goblins are so old is that they, liek elves, have no max age.
