~RISKY VENTURES~
╚═━━┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈━━═╝

TRADITIONAL EDITION

They say the storms were a curse from the gods for our hubris. The great and Glorious Empire had expanded to every island, nook and cranny in search of greater and greater riches. They say the great fleets were made of pure gold with sails as soft as clouds. In those days, monolithic galleons would return laden with fruits from paradise and metal stronger then dragon's teeth. Even the poorest man had a solid diamond chamberpot.

But then the storms came, cutting off the Capitol from the rest of the world, destroying any and all who dared brave the seas. As the centuries passed, the decadence of that golden age became a hazy dream, and the Crown and people grew poor and bitter.

But not anymore, what-ho! The great storms have cleared and the Crown has, in its magnanimousness, declared an age of exploration and reclamation! To reunite the lost settlements and regain access to those shiny shiny resources that most definitely rightly belong to the glorious Empire.

But what to do? The priceless sea charts had unfortunately been -ahem- repurposed during various periods of shortages over the last few centuries, and the art of ship building has become a bit of an artisanal craft. Even the greatest merchants shall have to pool their resources should they wish to brave the unknown seas.

But fret not, for there is surely a great deal of coin to be made. While the oceans are treacherous, the further islands are rife with untouched spoils, should you find a way to chart a course to them.

What is this?
This is a Risky Ventures style game, shamelessly and reverently pilfered from Kashyyk, Nuke9.13, a1s and many others. In this game you buy ships, send them on expeditions and get resources to sell. Anyone can join at any time.

This game is Lazy Faire, as coined by Nuke9.13, meaning I will be exceptionally lazy and do as little work as I can get away with to make this run. This means you will be required to keep track of your personal inventory, your companies inventory, your ships and items, and any other random bits and bobs you may claim or buy in the name of the empire.

How to Play
You are a merchant with 3 freshly minted Sovereigns burning a hole in your pocket, the absolute tragedy.

You can use them to buy a ship, which costs 10 Sovereigns.

You can name and send that Ship to different Islands, which produce different resources. They will happily exchange resources for worthless trinkets.

You can choose which islands to send your ship to, based on what charts you have. Further away islands will typically yield more profitable resources, but the journeys are more dangerous.

You can sell your resources at the Capitol for profit.

Some islands will have old Empire settlements on them, who will buy resources for different prices then the Capitol. Determining their prices is a task that takes time and investment, but can be very rewarding, allowing you to plan more lucrative routes.

During the game, new options for play and new locations will unlock. The market fluctuates and random events will happen. Your ships are not always guaranteed to return safely.

But wait! I don't have 10 Sovereigns!
Eegads! You can pool your resources together with other intrepid merchants to acquire your fleet. To do this, it is recommended you draw up a contract in which you receive shares of the profit equal to your investment. Your contract can look however you like, but is basically just clear terms everyone agrees with. You can be involved in multiple different ventures - have your thumbs in many pies, so to speak.

Should you join the game halfway through, you can wait to crowdfund a ship, lend your money with interest to generate income, or spend your money bidding on valuable charts or items that other enterprises may wish to contract with you to gain use of.

Spoiler: Example Contract (click to show/hide)

To join in, simply paste the below . Please keep track of your inventory during the game:
Code: [Select]
[Company Name]
Sovereigns: 3s
Ships: 0
Finally when you make an action in game, please put ACTACTACT at the start of your command in bold. E.g:

ACTACTACT: Buy a Ship for 10s and name it 'Haunting Maria', send it to NearEastlands to acquire sand.
ACTACTACT: Sell all stock to market

If you need to ask a question, please pop it in bold too.

Questions: what is the price of Sand, and how long is a round trip to the NearEastlands? I'm guessing 0.5s and 2 turns, but want to be sure.

Happy Crab LLC will take the loan for all 3s.

Drafting payment plan.

Quote from: Generous Monopoly Plan
On behalf of Corsair Inc. a loan of 3 Sovereigns is made to Happy Crab LLC.
The first payment is 1.5s on return of the chartered ship. Following payments are 1.75s for the following 2 returns of the ship chartered. [5s Total]
Failure to pay within 3 returns of the ship will result in forfeiture of 3/10 stocks in the chartered ship.
Failure can be renegotiated if sales of material are not sufficient, with extensions made.

Due to the danger of putting all our eggs in one basket, it is slightly more pricy. But it's the price for a higher long term profit.
You naturally get some leeway as well in case of accidents and lost cargo. Feel free to finish the payment ahead of time too.

Nah, 1.75 is way too high. 1.5 is a 50% increase on your investment already, which is pretty dang lucrative.

If you think your original offer is fair, I'll offer it right back to you - or to anyone else who wants it for 1.7 instead of 1.75, since that's *still* absurd.

The main issue is turnaround. I can do one with the original 1.5s each price, but you'd have to pay it as soon as the ship returned to really be worth it. Which might be a bit too much? (I don't do economics much. And you'd need 9 sand to pay it off.)

I would be willing to make it 3 G on the first return trip(paid in cargo preferably), followed by 1.7 on the second. [4.7 total.] No failure penalty on the first trip if the amount of sand gained isn't quite enough to meet 3G so long as the second can pay it off.
