I noticed that in Adventure Mode, enemy archers can shoot at you from far beyond your own visible range... do they use sniper scopes or something?  :p

Yes.  Yes they do.  Be fearful.  Mod eyes into the back of your head.

Yeah, they can pierce both yours eyes, your brain, and your throat from 100 yards away in the pitch black.

Not only can they, but 50% of the time they will. (45% of the time it'll be your heart and both lungs, and 5% you praise Armok the merciful and flee)

not to mention both legs so that you have to try and crawl off the map by which point you have bled to death 2 tiles away from the edge of the map...

Well, one of my adventurer walked into a cave by himself, and suddenly, I saw some ≤  behind the character. It is completely dark in the cave, but I realized there was a bowman! So I turned away, ran to the entrance... But countless arrows just came from the darkness, and the unlucky character bled to death.

Heh, did anyone watch the cartoon "12 oz. mouse"? It has a bowman which is obviously inspired by Dwarf Fortress.

I once was pierced in both lungs by a lion, I managed to walk off the map, leaving a trail of gore. Also, it seems everyone of my characters loses a single eye, and then keeps going.
