You have chosen Spellslinger. You gain the trait Caster's Aura.“Fucking Caravlians. Savage empire, always was, always will be. Forcing us into a pit fight, just for trying to read a few books?” the person in front of you huffs as they tug at your wrists. They're using a basic fire spell to weaken the ropes. Your bindings quickly fall away and you rub your wrists.
You remember now. You and three other apprentices were trying to check out the Forbidden Library's guarded tomes. The four of you were caught by magical protections well beyond your own skill levels and handed over to the local government, "tried", and sentenced to "provide entertainment until death". Carter is the Spellslinger in front of you now. The other two, Talys and Hathram, are also here and alive, but busy looking upward. You glance upward too. The platform is rapidly rising in a shaft clearly dug into the earth, and the ground above the rising platform begins to split open, allowing both sunlight and the roars of the crowd to cascade through. Some sand falls from the surface and dusts the group of you.
You get to your feet as Carter claps his hands together, "I'm sure we can take on whatever they throw at us in here."
"Yeah, now that he's alive," Hathram says with a deep laugh as he gestures to you.
"They're not going to go easy on us," Talys interjects, "This
is an execution."
"Of course, Tiny Talys," Hathram teases, "But this is an arena, and I'm going to go to my gods putting on a show."
Sunlight beams across the entire platform by now. Fire flickers in your palms as you begin channeling energy from your aura. You feel the rising platform slow and you can see the highest seats of the arena as your head begins to breach the surface. A booming voice projects throughout the coliseum.
"Presenting: The Punished! These foreign agents were caught trespassing within the Forbidden Library attempting to steal our most sacred knowledge!"
A chorus of boos echoes throughout the stadium.
"For their transgressions they have been sentenced to Entertain Until Deceased!"
The boos transform to cheers. The platform stops as it gets level with the floor of the large arena, letting you catch a glimpse of a whole lot of blood-stained sand and some innards that weren't cleaned up from a previous fight - an indication of what you're in store for if you somehow weren't aware already.
"And for our final fight tonight, the Champion of The Arena, The Mindcrusher, That Which Hungers...The Inquisitor!"
The crowds cheers elevate to an overwhelming pitch. A pair of reinforced doors swing open at the side of the arena, and a single figure in shimmering golden robes and a golden skull-like mask strides forward. A crown tops the hood covering their head. In their right hand they hold a glowing longsword with a blade composed entirely of ruby. Due to your
Caster's Aura, you can sense The Inquisitor's own incredibly powerful aura as the hairs stand straight up on your arms. You know this will be a very tough fight. Your three friends, independent as they are, all move separately to fight this opponent.
