In English "tiaoxiu (调休)" is often called "days in lieue," so if you work on the weekend or on a holiday you get a different day off... But never the other way around! Sounds absolutely horrifying

Here’s a Guardian article on it, though it… doesn’t really say anything, it also doesn’t mention Xu.

Sorry I have nothing to reply. What I got to know from rumors is that some of these former officers have been killed secretly in a military hospital .

Another miserable news : Chief medical expert of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention 吴尊友 has passed away due to disease at the age of 60 today.
During the three years’ pandemic, his hair turned white from totally black.
Hoping that he can rest in peace. :'(

I know the feeling. I actually didnt have (or expect to have) clearly gray hair on the sides... but the pandemic (and specially the problems at my current workplace) changed that

Another horrible news in China…

A medical specialist in China, whose specialty is about tumor promoter ,has three students got serious cancer in his lab, there are just 37 students in his lab.

If we compare this to the statistics of the cancer probability of the Fukushima 50 brave men, we can see that it is even more dangerous to study in the specialist’s lab than exposing to the radioactive waste.

However, the official announcement said with a lot of equivocation, which didn’t respond to people’s concerns, making it even more mysterious and WTF . It’s so evident that the announcers are just playing with words .By the way ,the cancer they get is the pancreatic cancer, which has a low survival rate ,but the officials said that they are in a stable state, really irony.

You may say that if the specialist do something wrong, he must left some clues , hahaha, you got the same point of view with the officers here, so they remove the lab with a reason of so-called fire inspection.

By the way the specialist has a lot of corruption scandals, he uses some methods to help his son get high academic degrees.

I had nothing to say, it shook my faith in the medical field.

That news could be intended to upset people and make the medical specialist look bad. Could the medical specialist be an enemy of the state?

Pollutions cause cancers and China has a pollution problem. Maybe those students have early stage cancer because of pollutions, and they discovered it because they were tested for cancer (in medical school, where students practice on each other). Maybe the tumor promoting material was handled safely, or maybe the students did something wrong.

The medical specialist could be corrupt, helping his son or stealing money, but he might be skilled at his work.

All profession have good people and bad people, corrupt and not corrupt. Have faith in people, not in professions.

But it won't happen to me, my bit doesn't count etc etc... Just saying, after my recent experiences I couldn't trust the public if I wanted to. People got their risk assessment neurons rotten and replaced with game theory. Folks walk around like fat turkeys taunting the world to slaughter them.

To be absolutely fair, on the statistics front, one in sixty four people (in the UK, according to a quick check) get diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in their lifetime.

157 'cancer hospitals' in China (another quick check, after failing to find the number of 'cancer labs'), assume each has (only!) 37 students under a single given researcher and they all spend just three years of their life there (though obviously that should ideally be age-adjusted as well)... Running the maths, on such very loosely estimated figures as I am assuming, the pure chances that several sites have (at least) one such exact diagnosis is fairly good. All it takes is a chance clustering and *alarm bells!!!* (And I bet/hope there are far more than 5809 such students in china, however so distributed.)

Not to say that the target individual isn't a bad man (or bad at his job), but it could well be a matter of looking for anything 'suspicious'. (If it isn't pancreatic cancer, it's prostrate - 1 in 8 of half the number of students is significantly into the double-digit sites having at least one student succumb. Choose your illness, or indeed choose from any illness and pick on the outliers that will inevitably be there to be discovered because of pure, unfortunate, bad luck. And there's a whole plethora of legal pitfalls anyone could be nudged into, including 'corruption' from minor financial irregularities - inadvertent, accidental, perceived or similarly contrived...)

The cynic in me thinks that this is an unduly inflated problem which just needs more rational thinking about. The pessimist in me thinks that it's deliberately inflated (by p-hacking) to find a cause to prosecute that is totally unrelated to the real intent to pick on this individual. (Or any individual, whoever would be the unlucky one to be made 'an example of'. That means you don't need the 'problem' to occur to anyone in particular, just anybody at all....)

But nothing I say will help (or hinder) the cause of justice. Or, most importantly, those suffering from the cancers.

(Also, the Fukushima 'scare' in China is notably overblown. The water released (with tritium, which is already being released by Chinese nuclear power stations (and everybody else's) as standard) is far lower in radioactivity than the worldwide agreed Drinking Water standards. Into a Pacific current that will further dilute it (as it also decays with a half-life of 12 years) long before it compromises Chinese 'waters'. And probably causes much less problems than regular industry/thermal power-stations in the region. But it's a stick to beat their neighbour with/rile up their own population, another thing I can't imagine my being able to help by explaining these things.)

What do you mean about the specialist working in "tumor promoter"?
