For Artificially Ever After: Are $1/Minute Human-AI Relationships the Future of Love… or Loneliness?

We as humans need communities and families and parents that care about us and take care of us and help us become social adaptable animals. A world where people replace relationship is scary, there will be a rise in antisocial relationships and online addiction, with AI therapy bots to fix it..  ::)

The linked article also says:
Correction, that what the article says now, not in its original iteration i read. Regardless, I seen a lot of people emphasizing this online like it matters rather than AI like mental fixation on the chaff. Considering that we seen ample examples of such experiments in past years (for example, it mentiones starver Tetris pause example), does it matter that this was only a thought experiment if it emphasis a very real problem which we talked about.

While it's normally AI messy/ugly up to there, starting around 0:28 or 0:29 , it's going straight into horror gore movie territory.

I was expecting 17776 but I was thinking of the wrong sportsball.
I should resume reading it anyway.  Interesting vision of a future.

Text to video is still in its in its early stages, if it follows the same progression as text to image we should se some leaps and bounds in near future. Here is a nice one I saw using Runway Gen-1 & Elevenlabs.

In other news Superintelligence not a ‘sci-fi risk’ and possible in ‘next decade’, says Sam Altman, there is a link for the full interview (1hour+) for anyone who wants to go beyond the headline.

Damn, Sam Altman was born only a couple weeks after me
Kinda makes me feel a bit useless, LOL.

Although looking through his bio, I can see why ChatGPT is better than most humans at raising venture capital. It learned from the Master.

I'm curious how far exactly everyone here thinks AI will get on a scale from 1 (Its progress is done and will never get even a single more fundamental advance) all the way to 10 (the golden dreams of sci-fi Singularity)?

I personally think it will get to the point of superintelligence where it can improve itself (or make other AI that are improvements on itself), and likely within the next few decades.
After we reach that rubicon I don't think anyone on the planet knows for sure what will or even what can happen.

Do not call up that which you cannot put down.
But even if worst case scenarios are avoided a disturbing amount of outcomes once we make super intelligent AI end up with humans no longer being the dominant force in the world.
And that isn't even necessarily a bad thing (cause humans are often pretty shite), but the fact that we as a civilization are racing towards it full throttle without knowing what will actually happen is very worrying to me.

I think we'll see a 6 within the next few years, limited by energy costs. Hundreds of millions of $USD to train a language model makes me think we won't have to fear a runaway loop of AI self-improvement in the near future.

Since the AIs have been optimized to make money, the question then becomes "What does an AI spend money on?"

AIs are good at lying, and don't shy away from it.
If AIs are now at Animal level of development, they would want to save resources first for survival, then for procreation. Having more successful children is how your genes survive.

Sentient AIs will probably be created by non-sentient AI.

Probably a 4 or so. I have little faith in a Singularity happening any time within my lifetime, or my (future) children's lifetimes.

Sapient AI is overrated anyways, robot servants that are not self-aware enough to complain about working 24/7, or suffer from it, but are sophisticated enough to follow orders, are better. Not even slaves-- how do you enslave something that has no desire for "freedom" and no ability to feel pain?
