There are rules of nature though, like digging below aquifer inviting a whole bunch of hell. I swear I walked past a bit of old lake/marsh bank and it was just gone. All the brush where the birds used to nest - gone. Everything had been filled in with dirt. I asked the construction guys what was going on and they said they were going to build several towers there - residential and commercial units.

You can see the high water mark still on the lake banks.
They are building the foundations of their towers well under the water table. Are their masters really so desperate for any unused land for development that they're willing to embark upon a constant multigenerational battle against rain just to keep the first floors from flooding?

People got their risk assessment neurons rotten and replaced with game theory. Folks walk around like fat turkeys taunting the world to slaughter them.

The local government council approved it and other developments despite objections from locals and parkland ecologists that the long term impacts would be greater than expected; money talks it seems. Hard to stand in the way of a multibillion pound regeneration scheme

Well if they can afford meters upon meters of fill, I doubt they don't have a permit. My workplace lies in an industrial zoning build on marshlands. I was told the tale of it's construction, the place where the municipal workers store their equipment is build on top of 10 actual meters of fill. There are like 4-5 water basins dispersed through the zone. Flooding is not an issue.

You forgot to think in the right scale of money that is willingly thrown out the window if it's to help pissnisses. Hell I bet your local governement subsidized this shit, and they will have some terrain left over to sell once the initial investors built their shit.

The local council sold land that was occupied by council houses or vacant buildings to developers for several tens of millions of pounds, plus a profit share agreement (so the council got 3.91% of the profits from the sales related to the redevelopment sales). So far they haven't approved of sales of actual parkland, but land adjacent to the parkland and in the lakes has already been sold and redeveloped or under the process of redeveloping. In addition they've been given a whole lot of government grant money to redistribute to land developers and... Well... Not only are people worried about them one day going full ham on annihilating the parks, but they're planning on building housing for 18,000 people without any new public transport stations, schools, hospitals or clinics. Hopefully someone will

Also for those who aren't aware council houses are used to house people who need spaces to live in, and was either free or heavily discounted compared to market rates. It was a huge success so naturally our government hated it

Why don't we take the forum and push it somewhere else?
