What do you think the best weapon for fighting undead?  I'm not talking about weapon choice for a specific type of undead, but rather for taking on a haunted ruin area with large mobs of zombies and skeletons.

I think for me its probably either a 2h sword, or a large axe weapon- good cleaving power, doesn't get stuck in zombies easily.  Since undead don't seem to be very vulnerable to crits or the like, raw damage works well on them.

I suppose maces and hammers are OK, but they don't seem to work as well on zombies as the bigger bladed weapons.  Trying to fight undead with whips or pikes/spears seems to be almost suicidal.  

Opinions?

Zombies and skeletons are pitifully weak, you could beat them down with a XXRope Reed MittenXX and be very deadly.

Or unskilled wrestling if you're in half-decent armor.

As long as you stay on the surface away from the Zombie Spearmasters and Skeletal Bowmasters and such.

wrestling is good, to build your skill.

otherwise, axes are good to lop off limbs.  undead dont care about lopped limbs though, so blunt hammers and such are good for knocking back and dealing general trauma.

I'd bring a hammer for raw damage if I knew I was in for a campaign against the undead. It's just that bladed weapons are so very nice in general, and work well against weakling undead desite their crit immunity, that I end up using an axe generally.

Using spears is suicide, though.

Thats up until the point where you get flooded by them and they start slowly breaking your arms and legs and strangling you to death.

Or when the Bowmaster pops out and shoots you from the other side of the ruin.

My advise: Throwing objects that wheight less then 1 since you can take infinite stocks of them and they are just as deadly as anything else.

I don't know about this, I had a blast lopping off zombie arms, legs, and heads with my whip. maybe it doesn't kill them as quickly as other weapons, but definitely not suicidal.

anyway, whips do GORE damage, which shouldnt be good against undead, but its certainly not bad.

weapons that do PIERCE damage (spears, pikes) are suicide, as posted above.  I had a human spearmaster traveling with me (leader of a human civ) and he was totally mauled by undead in a ruin.  his spear stuck in a wound, and all he would do is twist it until a horde of undead slowly beat him to death.

it took ages, and i couldnt find him until i was over.  it seems like he passed out from exhaustion fighting them all, but never did any damage.  the descriptions of his demise were pretty vivid and traumatizing.

Yar, I always get me sword stuck in them damn zombies!  Lose it half the time too.  Stupid zombies!  So I then have ta beat them to death again with their own severed limbs!

A big ass hammer never goes wrong. Even my newstarted adveturers makes them fly around like the people Sauron hits in the LOTR.

Having a weapon got stuck sometimes really sucks. But I heard hammers are slower than other weapons, is that true? I don't realized that though.
