I am happy that they are doing it so crudely. They had many ways of imitating harsh negotiations with Russia and supporting Ukraine while doing the opposite.

Trump says "You (=Ukraine) should never have started it (=the war)."

This would be my WTF of the day, but nothing less is expected of orange man.

You're good, this is a legit Emotional Response to the War in Ukraine, specifically the American President's betrayal of the War being waged against Ukraine by Russia.

Dunno if you know the full history, but President Zelensky, before his country got invaded by Russia, was asked by Trump to make up garbage evidence about his campaign rival Biden.
Zelensky, a bit naively, said "I'm not interfering in US politics by making up bullshit!"
And thus Trump was always going to betray Zelensky, and by extension Ukraine.

Yeah. We live in a new reality in which the US won't provide military aid to Ukraine and may (partially) remove sanctions from Russia.

Whatever. No shocks there. It was expected when Trump won the elections. There was some hope that chaotic Trump would do something chaotic but nope. As I said, I am happy that they are so crude and direct about their intentions.

What matters now is how Europe will act in this new reality and how will it resist joint American-Russian pressure on its elections.

That is the problem indeed. Trump for all intents and purposes seems to be pursuing an alliance with Russia, or at least a temporary alliance for the purpose of tearing apart the EU. I mean on the one hand he demands higher contributions to NATO and for the EU to step up to defend Ukraine, but then he supports all the right wing parties that object any extra spending, and that would hand Ukraine to Russia on a platter.

The orange man will likely choke on a cup of tea sooner or later if he trust Putin like that, but wtf indeed.

Almost every major politician, plus a slew of minor ones, in the UK has decried Trump's dictator accusations.

Considering Keir's been talking about peacekeeping forces in Ukraine it seems we're presently prioritising Ukraine over the US.

US could cut Ukraine's access to Starlink internet services over minerals, say sources

Expected. And very unpleasant. Contrary to popular belief, American aid is not crucial anymore. undoubtedly useful but not crucial. With three major exceptions - 1) Supply of Air Defense, namely Patriot missiles. 2) American intelligence, the US has the best satellites. 3) And this damned Starlink that has no good alternatives. Surprisingly, in the era of the internet... you need internet on the front. It is so damn unfortunate that Elon is a monopolist on the market of frontline internet... Other options are vastly inferior.

I am afraid that Zelensky will have to fold and sign some bullshit treaty giving away our mineral wealth. Not as awful as the original one but still unpleasant. Well, immediate survival is more important. The next generations of Ukrainians will have to handle this somehow. Besides, with such rulers, the US will cease to exist in a few years anyway

Gosh, will Elon really let Trump cut Ukraine's access to Starlink?

The real question is whether you can trust Trump&co to respect *any* agreement that is signed. The willingness to get everything for nothing has already been shown. And the last month has shown what an unreliable actor he is.

It's strange how with all the talk about the security risks of Chinese based companies controlling communication networks, that so many people ignore the similar risks of US based companies.

Oh, I don't discount those risks, but as a US Citizen, it's better if US based companies are doing it for me personally.

It's also not a major risk to Ukraine: Several British broadcasters exist, and Ukraine has its own broadcaster.

Trump is now demanding compensation for support that was given freely at the time. Even if you trust Trump, it's abundantly clear that any deal made with the US won't outlast the current administration.

While I think that Ukraine giving up mineral rights is akin to a mafia exploitation scheme, and while I think it is highly disrespectful to Ukraine, I think it's a viable path to providing concrete security protections to Ukraine by the United States, along with ensuring some level of US investment in repairing the infrastructure of Ukraine.

...I also suspect a secret clause requires several blocks of Kiev to be sold to Trump & Co for about $1, so they can build fancy places for the US CEOs when they are visiting all those lucrative mines that the US will ensure are never threatened by Russia.

The deals profiting American ain't transferable to any territory that falls into Russian hands.  America's greed shall protect Ukraine, until the mines run out.

And what, Putin relies upon Trump's assurances that Ukraine will never join NATO?  The teller of lies tells lies.  Once US wealth needs protection, guess who gets to join NATO on the Fast Track?  Hell, it's probably why Trump wants Europe to pay more into NATO: They want the Europeans to foot the bill for protecting American mines in Ukraine.  Ultimately, Ukraine & US promises that Ukraine never join NATO as part of a peace deal are completely unenforceable, so long as Ukraine can actually join NATO prior to Russia launching another invasion.
