From Novaya Gazeta article:
"On 31 December 2024, a five-year contract between Russia’s Gazprom and Ukraine’s Naftogaz for delivering Russian gas to Europe via Ukraine expires. As it stands, over half the pipeline gas Moscow still supplies to Europe uses this route, principally to reach markets in Slovakia, Austria and Hungary. While the Kremlin has indicated that it is prepared to continue these deliveries, Kyiv has ruled out any extension to the contract. Economically, however, Kyiv, Moscow and Brussels all have a deep vested interest in continuing the current arrangement, and are seeking a viable solution to this geopolitical conundrum."

With the Nordstreams down, the Belarus-to-Poland pipeline is the only(?) land-route left for Russian natural gas to the EU.

There is something to be said about, if the stakes are as high, maybe reconsider your certitudes. One has to be aggressively allistic to feel entitled to be able to trust. But it won't happen to me, my bit doesn't count etc etc... Just saying, after my recent experiences I couldn't trust the public if I wanted to. People got their risk assessment neurons rotten and replaced with game theory. Folks walk around like fat turkeys taunting the world to slaughter them.

As expected, after accumulating a bunch of missiles, Russia conducted another massive attack against our power infrastructure. Considering that with each winter they produce more missiles and our energy system is already badly damaged, this winter will be harsh.

Quote from: Washington Post
President Joe Biden has authorized Ukraine to use a powerful American long-range weapon for limited strikes inside Russia in response to North Korea’s deployment of thousands of troops to aid Moscow’s war effort, according to two senior U.S. officials.

But this will ESCALATE the war and Democrats may lose the elect... oh, nevermind.

Also, I absolutely love how such things become public in seconds, giving Russia time to prepare

Ukraine should use them to strike North Korea for maximum geopolitical chaos.

Also, it is way past time that that clearance to use them long range was given. Better late than never.
Let's hope Germany will lose it's reluctance now too to supply Taurus and allow long distance use. They have repeatedly said that they don't want to do that as long as the US doesn't allow the use of US long range weapons on Russian soil.

This time it's not Putin, but the Russian parliament that is threatening that if long range US weapons are used on Russian soil, Ukraine will be turned into a ruin and it will start WW3.

What's the difference to them? They already claim that ukraine is part of russia.

In a speech to the army, Kim Jong Un has said that they need to prepare for war.

The permission to uses the long range weapons is only given for the Kursk region.

EDIT: Germany is giving 4000 attack drones to Ukraine. The new drones have been developed by artificial intelligence company Helsing.
The are nicknamed 'mini Taurus', after the long range Taurus missiles that so far, Germany has been unwilling to provide.
Because of advanced technology, the drones have a longer range, and they are capable of acquiring their targets using AI, making them invulnerable to jamming technology.

Good for Ukraine, but scary. The first 'autonomous weapons' are a reality now.
The drones have already been field tested by Ukrainian forces in May this year.

The UN observed the first autonomous weapon made kill in the Libyan civil war like over ten years ago, from the deployment of loitering munitions (airborne weapons designed to hover over or patrol a certain area until a target presents itself). These mini Tauruses fulfil the same role as loitering munitions

The British Brimstone missile has had that capability for years now, and is even supposed to be able to datalink to other missiles and make sure they're not double-teaming a target. Picking out and engaging vehicles, down to determining the type of vehicle (truck, tank, APC, wienermobile, etc) isn't that hard. You really want a man in the loop if you're engaging targets in an area where your own forces are close and especially if there's civilians in the area (note that every military operation since 1939 has seen large numbers of commandeered civilian vehicles - the Iraqi army quite famously stole almost every car in Kuwait as part of the retreat that became known as the Highway of Death, so you can't rely on "don't shoot civilian-type vehicles" programming), but if you can comfortably designate an area as a free-fire zone it isn't that hard to automate.

Also I guess by that same metric, lots of close protection systems and automated turrets will just BRRTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT any target they see, so if you include them then "autonomous weapons" have been around for a lot longer even than that

Landmines left in the ground for decades (also an autonomous weapon, BTW) will kill way more random people than malfunctioning drones
