Some personal news for anyone interested. After 2,5 years at frontlines with only few weeks of combined rest time, my brother is a civilian again.

He had to jump through some legal hoops (His family won a court case and a following apeal against the Armed Forces of Ukraine) to achive this but it is done. It is absolutely neccessary. He is exhaused, his health has severely detoriated. I doubt that he could last the 3rd winter.

I know for sure that he would prefer an extended leave but it isn't an option. One of the things wrong in how we wage this war.

I'm glad to hear he's out of the front. It's been in the back of my mind since you mentioned him - although I'm sure not nearly as much as it has been in yours. I hope your family stay as safe as possible!

Volunteered on day 2 with exactly zero military experience, spend few months learning how to operate 2S1 Gvozdika, went to the front as a gunner and a private, eventually got promoted to a commander and a senior sergeant, survived a fair share of tense situations, lost 3 machines, eliminated many Russians.

He will be missed on the front and won't be easily replaced. But as I said, I can't see him enduring the third winter. For example, his dentist said that few more months without a proper treatment of an aquired chronic infenction and he may lose most of his teeth or... worse.

Last month, the Wall Street Journal reported Musk has had multiple conversations with Russian officials including Putin and his first deputy chief of staff Sergei Kiriyenko, citing unnamed U.S., European and Russian officials.
Shaheen and Reed said in the letter it was "deeply concerning" that Musk reportedly had conversations with Kiriyenko. He was charged this year with other Russian officials by the U.S. Justice Department for spearheading an AI-powered propaganda campaign on Musk's social-media platform X and other sites to promote Russian interests and influence voters ahead of the U.S. presidential election.

Sorry, the moderate Democrat party leadership were too busy to notice: banning Tiktok while using Tiktok and also trying to empower state AGs to disrupt many parts of their voting base so their only allies on Earth "don't win too much".

Huh. Now that I think about it, that may actually be one of the reasons why Trump won this election. I doubt Tiktoker's appreciated the government's attempts to take away their beloved social media platform.

I still don't get the appeal of Tiktok with it's weird narrow cellphone type videos, which is a format I've found to be annoying.

Its because its on your phone, and access is so low-friction.

Its not just that they are cellphone "type" video's, its that since you are obviously watching it on mobile you want its aspect ratio to be the cellphone one.

But why watch that when youtube is also available on a phones. And you can watch those videos in a wide format by holding the phone on its side.

The number of things that assume my tablet (which I habitually use in landscape, unless forced otherwise) should be in portrait.

I sort of accept the principle of the Idle Game that I might be playing enforcing portrait-mode rather than trying to provide a juggled interface for such as I. But various wobsites on the blagotubes 'helpfully' detect that I'm on a mobile browser and do rearrange everything so that it works better in portrait[1] (which I'm not using!). And in a way that "show desktop site" (and often removing the ".m.", or likewise, from the "www.m.internets.whatever" in the URI) rarely actually reverts to non-mobile browsing.

And some apps (Adobe Acrobat!) enforce portrait (turning everything sideways) for absolutely no reason whatsoever (eventually, once the .pdf has loaded and I've gotten past the 'option' to subscribe to things that I really don't want to subscribe to, it will display the document back as landscape, but what used to load up what I wanted in a few seconds now takes minutes of "sideways" and promises about AI features t read the document for me that I have absolutely no intention to use...).

So... Am I right to be worried about what Zelensky ultimately means about how the war will end sooner with Trump in charge? I might have missed some context to it, during the news item that repeated it earlier today.
