Deployment Phase 1

While the Grand Army has been formed on paper, the war machine is slow to rise. Most of the Grand Army's forces are yet being trained and equipped. Their standing armies busy marching across the continent or stuffing themselves into transport ships, no doubt soon to arrive but not soon enough to intercept the second wave of the Invaders. Their ability to appear from nowhere with no visible logistics only becomes more frighting when compared to the troubles you face raising an equivalent force.

Of course there are exceptions to this problem - the Nawra manage to send the majority of their military forces to the front immediately thanks to that force consisting of two individuals who are one - Allion & Hura. They dominate the sky as if daring another wave to face their might. Nearby the Kingdom of Tensali has brought a unit of cannons, pulled into position by giant snow minx under the leadership of Veikka Puomi. If it where not for uncooperative weather Tensali would have its full force at the border already, we can not overlook the possibility the attacks where timed to slow the speed of intervention. Admiral Everett of the Terve Merchant Empire faces a similar problem, the ports of the far north and their rivers being frozen over and limiting the use of their infamous raiding ships. His Wyvern Riders remain undaunted by this hazard flying high above it, ready to put their hard earned skills to work against the Invaders. Western Prince Ted Yamamoto dragged his ten-gallon hat clad warriors to the front-line with his family's drakes to similar effect, as the rest of his forces prepare to the East. Their exceptional abilities with ranged combat will give them an edge over the Invaders with a noted shorter range. An unexpected ally arrives as well - Gobbleshire under the necromancer Grimtusk Bonegrinder, with his mighty undead mount plowing through the snow to allow the goblins following him an easy path. They're currently the most numerous allied force by a notable amount, a force that will only increase as the bodies begin to pile up.

You stand in the snow around a large tree stump acting as a war table. While you have individual command tents prepared, there are none grand enough to enclose the massive Hura and Allion, leaving  the lot of you stuck in the cold until you find a way to cover up the giant serpent. The War as just started, but even now the decisions you make will shape the face of the world. Feel free to discuss deployment and strategy with your fellow Generals before moving to the front.

Battlefield One: After successfully conquering the Imperial Capital, the Grand Invaders began pouring out into the surrounding countryside. There is no chance of pushing through the Horde to reclaim the capital until reinforcements arrive. However your current forces are capable of slowing their advancement into the nearby towns, villages, and cities. Their goals are unknown; we do not yet know if they even eat. Nonetheless denying them resources is the main objective of this mission. The better you can hold them off, the more of High Rus we can successfully evacuate. Expected battlefield is a large range including frozen forests, wide fields filled with plants that love the cold, villages, and occasionally snowy hills. The bulk of the enemy troops consists of 'Line Infantry', however 'Winged Hussars', 'Dragoons', and 'Light Infantry' perform much of the raiding ahead of the main army.

Battlefield Two: According the the records the second city to face the Grand Invaders should be the Sultanate of Drezzen, a southern neighbor to High Rus. We do not have much information to work with, but are simply making assumptions based on the fact it was the second to have its skies darken with the gloom of the Invaders. With the foreknowledge of their arrival we will be able to keep them from conquering the small Sultanate, with defenses being prepared as we speak. Expected battlefields include fortresses, walls, and urban fighting. Outside the Sultanate city state the land is somewhat more temperate than High Rus, with flowing rivers and the occasional greenery poking through the snow. Enemy forces are completely unknown. We can only pray they are less in number than the first invasion.

Veikka gets up and begins walking around everyone with a pointing cane "Well gentlemen If I may take the floor my name is Veikka Puomi, Major General of the Tensali forces and I will be the first to say I did not expect to be working with such a... diverse group of people although I shall not let such a fact sway my judgment and I hope all of you do the same."

"Anyway I'm sure you are all aware the situation is dire enough even that even a nation like Terve." Veikka points his cane at Everett "Normally content with sitting on their piles of gold feels obligated to intervene. Quiet frankly there is plenty we have to do and not much time or available information to help do it so let's get discussing shall we? After all the future of the world rests on our shoulders lets not disappoint." Veikka smirks before sitting back down

Grimtusk Bonegrinder considers the war tablestump, and contemplates the situation.

"This is what I am currently thinking..."

"On the first battlefield, our primary objective should be to slow down the enemy forces and deny them access to resources. To achieve this, I would suggest a combination of defensive and offensive tactics. We can set up defensive positions and establish chokepoints, and have our artillery rain fire on the enemy forces. We can also use hit and run tactics to harass the enemy and slow down their advancement. On this front, I would recommend deploying Veikka Puomi with their high mobility artillery, as well as my own Light Infantry. Admiral Everett would also be a natural fit for this front, both assisting with raiding and countering the enemies own Winged Hussars."

"As for the second battlefield, we should make use of both natural terrain and fortifications to hold off the enemy. On this front I would recommend stationing the Line Infantry of Western Prince Ted Yamamoto, who are well equipped to defend a location due to their high accuracy, and the drakes can wreck havoc on enemy siege units. At this location I would also advise deploying Great Unity Allion & Hura, who would be instrumental at breaking the most concentrated siege attempts."

If Everrett was bothered by Veikka's barbs he didn't show it. Approaching the map he pointed out the Sultanate of Drezzen with his remaining hand."We cannot afford a second front. We may not even be able to afford the first one. The coming attack at Drezzen must be repelled or this war could be over very quickly. Drezzen should be our priority.,"

His finger began to trace the paths of different rivers around the Imperial capital as he spoke. "Given the state of the rivers near the imperial capital my forces and expertise would be significantly less useful there. There is only so much we can do with frozen rivers. Near Drezzen I'll be able to be far more mobile and flexible. Against the unknown mobility and flexibility will be key. This is why I do not support Veikka's field artillery being deployed somewhere where Terve ships cannot assist them. Alone they are slow and valuable targets. Backed up by ships that can rapidly redeploy them they become much more dangerous and a lot more mobile,"

"My suggested order of battle is for Veikka, the Western Prince, and myself to secure Drezzen while Grimtusk and Hura perform a holding action near the capital. Grimtusk your," he paused as he searched for an acceptable term "...troops are expendable and the Nawra cavalry is capable of flight and fast redeployment. They'd be able to get out if things get too hairy. It will be a meat grinder and we do not know the enemy's aim or their abilities. Are they simply trying to exert control on the area surrounding their beachhead? Or are they hungry?"

He turned to Grimtusk his expression grim as always "How viable would the corpses of those retreating citizens or those unable to evacuate be for turning into undead soldiers? In your opinion has the enemy shown anything that would indicate necromancy?"

TLDR: Focus on the 2nd front commit warcrimes.

Veikka sits still his face contorted into one of visible concern and shock before quickly returning back to a neutral resting face. "Admiral I'm afraid I must interject while defending the Sultanate is no doubt important I feel the true potential of my men's artillery would be wasted in such an urban environment. If I must remind you open fields are where our artillery shine which there is no shortage of in the many open plains of the High Rus countryside I have full faith that the necromancers... troops would be more than enough to properly support my men. As for your last suggestion, I hope it is in jest for I shudder to even think about the implications of such a statement we are desperate yes but not so that we must resort to such barbaric and vile means.

The serpent stirs, the trees rustling with the movement as it hisses graveled speech.
"We detest the idea of using the fallen.
Call us Unity, it was our title before this war and it shall be once again.
No lesser beast may claim the sky or land whilst we command the horizon.
We shall move to protect the Capital's surrounding countryside, unless we are given reason to do otherwise. We are not suited for breaking open fortifications and our acidic gasses would likely not be kind to our own citizens.
We will not suggest deployments to you all, as we suspect you know your troops far better than we do."

"It was neither jest nor suggestion, though I don't believe anything should be off the table for consideration. I was pondering worst-case scenarios. We do not know what the enemy is capable off but we do know some things that are possible. Quickly and efficiently conquering a world like ours requires vast reserves of troops, far beyond the hordes they've already shown us. Hitting the enemy's most populated positions and then turning the corpses into your soldiers just makes sense as a strategy. If that is what they are doing then things could quickly snowball out of control. But I know little about necromancy and its limit. And I confess I am also inexperienced in the use of field artillery. I am in no position to second guess your knowledge there"

"I see... very well then so I, the Necromancer, and Unity head toward the capital charting at least basic defensive fallback lines around strategic points and rivers as we do with the intent of both holding out for as long as able as well as saving as many civilians as possible meanwhile the Admiral and... Ted focuses on defending the sultanate for as long as able making use of it's many walls and castles to do so both objectives shall be carried out until reinforcements arrive or we are forced to retreat... More proper tactics can be discussed on the way to our respective fronts but for now, does anyone have any objections in matters concerning their assigned front?"

Whenever you decide where you want to put your troops, just mark where you want to send each unit and your General along with any objectives or strategic outlines you would like to give them. You can deploy troops to different battlefields. You can deploy your General separately from your troops.

When everyone is done deploying the phase will be over.

"I have a minor objection insofar as you don't actually get to tell me what to do.

However, I want to defend Drezzen, anyway.
"

Ted and both Line Infantry to hold the walls of Drezzen, with a particular interest in destroying enemy siege weapons.

Grimtusk Bonegrinder has no complaints about Veikka Puomi's assignment. Probably because it was Grimtusk's idea in the first place.

Battlefield 1: 2 Units of Gobbleshire Light Infantry and General Grimtusk Bonegrinder.

The strategy is to advance in a sparse formation until they confirm the presence of enemy forces, at this point they will attempt to strike the enemy from outside their opponent's effective range and periodically fall back whenever a powerful group of enemies begins to approach, ideally to hills and forests that they can use to extend their range or take cover.

One unit will be at the front looking for opportunities to harass enemy forces and generally being extremely obnoxious, while the other unit will circle the Tensali artillery and move with them to prevent hostile forces from overwhelming them.

Grimtusk himself will have the logistics team deliver the corpses of combatants to him whenever they can do so safely in order to convert them to undead under his command.

Admiral Everrett will take his forces to battlefield 2 to act as a quick reaction and raiding force. His troops will hit and fade oncoming enemy attacks and respond to support attacked allied positions.

"Alrighty then it seems we are all in agreement on our roles and basic objectives within the opening moves of this war now then let's all prepare to give these oversized insects a real whopping!"

Send Myself and my Artillery to Battlefield 1 we shall be focusing on keeping pace with Grimtusk while being on the look out for strategic fallback points also make sure to give the Artillery Men a rousing speech before we enter proper combat to boost morale!
