"Nothing, huh? Hey, are you even there?" Velklin reaches up to wave his hand in front of Eleazar's face. "Ummm... Isabsam, do you mind dragging this guy back to the ship? He seems to be zoned out..."

(Now we can safely skip Blackpaladin if he doesn't show.)

BlackPaladin99 has posted an action in other games yesterday, but not this one.

I know it has been a little while, but the game isn't dead. It's just that I am experiencing a minor burnout. Will become better soon.

If you need a few days to get your head back in the game it won't bother me, that's what kept me from killing the game I ran a while back.

Su Lin thought about things. What was there to do? Ever since he learned of Geshemblos's existence, he was thinking about Ornos. The possibility of Ornos having had an entire pantheon of relatives friends, companions. Maybe even a partner and children?

So he asked Ornos about it. The answer was... inconclusive.

"I... have. I have... siblings. Many. I forgot how much."

"Do you and your brother and your other siblings have parents, then?"

"No?.. I can't... remember."

Su Lin saw that Ornos looked bothered. Strained, even. The beetle god was unfurling and pulling at his own wings. A stress tic, he assumed. So he decided to stop questioning the deity and try to workout again. But he gave it his all this time.

Code: [Select]
Su Lin's workout successes (13<)= 17, 14
DOUBLE SUCCESS!

Su lin felt considerably more powerful. He felt like he could punch through a tree. Metaphorically.

But still.

"Ummm... Isabsam, do you mind dragging this guy back to the ship? He seems to be zoned out..."

Lemmy barely heard that, and felt the rush of divine mana course through him like a warm embrace. Velklin had healed them all, casting Mass Heal twice, then refilling his mana entirely. Eleazar, though, still looked beat up. He briefly thought to ask the demigod why, but his mind focused elsewhere as he looked at Burt and Isabam leaving the dungeon with Eleazar slung over the metal ladies shoulder.

Namely, the small, glimmering, shard of ice, remnant of the ice skinks from before, laying on the perfectly flat, glacier floor He reached out to it and took it in his hands, inspecting how it weakly shined under the dim light that seemed to come from all surfaces.

Then he had an idea. An awful idea.

Lemmy had a wonderful, awful idea.

Velklin, meanwhile, was trying to comprehend exactly how the obelisk was doing what it was doing.

He peered into its structure to find... nothing. Literally. There was no highly sophisticated innards to it. Just, a solid stone cut thing. It seemed to be operating on some ungodly make-believe logic!

There was one thing clear. It was an unlimited source of its own featureless, robotic, non-descript mana. Which came from, well, nowhere. He likened it to 0- blood; compatible with everything, while not allowing any additions to itself except for itself. Velklin then tried to figure out what made this mana different than, say, his' or Lin's, and what made it so blank, then came to a sudden realisation.

It wasn't-

What? What was that? Mana, yes. The mana didn't had any sort of allegiance, and was so inert that it could even crudely substitude for the fragile constitition of belief, and so was perfectly compatible with everyone and everything with magic ability... What was Lemmy doing?

Code: [Select]
Lemmy tries to use ice shards to get mana from the obelisk (15<): 3
Lemmy had a small pile of ice shards on both of his palms, and was almost hastily walking forward to the obelisk.

Before Velklin could say anything, Lemmy pressed the ice clusters into the obelisk. And mana flowed into the shards. And then, into him. He then bursted up in magic flames, and in seconds, turned to ash.

With nothing else to do, Velklin returned back to the ship. And the dungeon was empty at last.

Geshemblos had finally grown more relaxed confident around the adventurers, it seemed. He didn't looked pissed at everything anymore, and had started to randomly scurry around the ship, going up boxes and generally being a petty nuisance.

Velklin saw this as an opportunity to get the know his bonded deity a bit better, and maybe negotiate a boost of power like Su Lin had. The fact that he had to somehow convinced the darn reptile to give it rather than getting it automatically like Su Lin did slightly irked him, but he let it slide.

This was also prime opportunity to see if a being made of belief could possibly be influenced by that said belief.

He approached the skink god and saw him tentatively crawling towards him too. And then discovered that Geshemblos had a reptilian lisp.

"Thank?.. Sssshit... I... I no good... at thissss."

"Oh, no problem. Are you feeling awkward? That's what you are getting at?"

Yessss...uh... um.... ssssorry.'s

Velklin suddenly felt a jolt of rigidity flow through him. It felt like a warm campfire. He relaxed a moment later. And he didn't even needed to actually convince the god. Maybe his hypothesis worked?

" I... wassss sssscared... Very... Did... did not think... not had ssssensse... Not my fault. Not."

Maybe not.  Geshemblos seemed to acknowledge his previous behavior and not actually change in personality. He seemed to be ashamed, but also defensive, too. Expected of a household god. Those were usually prideful. Who felt ashamed to do wrong, but also hesitant to own up to that shame.

Velklin thought that maybe he shouldn't try to gauge the fire deity further, who was getting more and more uncomfortable, and to give him some space for him to come to terms with his feelings.

Meanwhile, Burt was just finished with his routine of cheking inside the ship for items. He found none. So instead he tried to get to the next mission. The first and second obelisks gave the ship new coordinates. Maybe this third one also did?

He opened the console as Isabam and the newly-respawned Lemmy came to look.

There was a new target.

Displaying: Heyam 72 System Chart

The target pointed to the very last sphere. The planet Heyam 72-e. A cold, icy wasteland. He remembered the psionic message from the final obelisk. Highest peak, at the roof.

That would help with the mission, if he could figure out what it means.

Try it again!  Maybe I can break these obelisks.  Or break something about how they work.  Or get something unapproved done.  It's good practice at not getting murdered by mana, in any case.

Do this as many timse as possible until we go elsewhere.  Getting murdered by magic is bad.

Su Lin
'Like a well-composed song, life's melody brings joy and harmony, with lyrics of love and memories that never fade.'

Su Lin considers the predicament. It seemed that Ornos and Geshemblos were once part of an entire pantheon, but they couldn't recall who the other members were at the moment. Perhaps Velkin's Minor Wish ability could bridge the gap? Su Lin felt it was worth mentioning to him.

The obelisks now pointed to a new location, and the obvious thing to do would be to head there... But for some reason Lemmy decided to leave the ship? While Su Lin didn't actually understand what if anything Lemmy brought to the group, he still figured that it would be in poor form to take off without him and strand him here.

Now that Ornos was back, Su Lin decides to try to learn from him. Ornos may be rather disoriented, but he seemed to retain proficiency in the art of song. While Su Lin was not exactly confident in his singing ability, he now felt that he had sufficient justification to practice it even if crewmates might potentially find it annoying.

Action 1: Su Lin meditates on the dao of Song.
Action 2: Su Lin attempts to learn how to use Soothing Song by virtue of his own voice.
Action 3: Su Lin attempts to attune his Qi to the Dao of Song.

Velklin

Su Lin considers the predicament. It seemed that Ornos and Geshemblos were once part of an entire pantheon, but they couldn't recall who the other members were at the moment. Perhaps Velkin's Minor Wish ability could bridge the gap? Su Lin felt it was worth mentioning to him.

"Y-yeah... I think i could do that-" Velklin begins, sitting on the ground, facing Su Lin, with Geshemblos coiled around his forearm - following it with "But making wishes makes me tired... Remind me again when we find another one of those obelisks or something like them."

He leans back, turning his head to look at Lemmy, who is in the process of disembarking the ship, again, to presumably mess with the obelisk some more. "I don't think we need to wait for him..." Velklin says in a kind of a soft, sympathetic tone, then sighs "If he touches that obelisk, he'll die again. And then just respawn back on the ship. I wish he would stop hurting himself- but i don't think he will." closing his eyes, then slowly opens them once he's finished.

"At least I learned some things about the obelisk... I'm gonna write it down, so i'll have some notes for later-! but i already have some ideas...!" He says, becoming more  enthusiastic with each word. "Y'know- This noosphere nonsense isn't my area at all - the magic of True Gods is a ton more logical weirdly enough - but i think i'll need to create something like the obelisk, if i want to do what it does. That's why i'm writing it down!"

Finally stopping, Velklin looks Su Lin over, noticing that the cultivator has apparently put on some (more) muscle and cringes slightly. "Umm... Were you doing pushups the whole time everyone else was down in that hole? We... Really kinda could've used your help. But, uhh... now i feel like i need to do some training too, so i could keep up with you- but i'm not gonna pick up a dumbbell, at least not without some help from magic- they're heavy and it hurts--" He stops mid-sentence, seemingly struck by some kind of idea "Hey-! I just finally got a grip on Telekinesis, now it's time to see what it can do! Maybe... i can use it to power up my physical abilities as needed! And i can use that time while i practice to bond more with Geshemblos! since he seemed really good with telekinesis when we fought him."

Action Recap
Action 1: Write down the whole thing with Geshemblos, the obelisk and Lemmy.
Action 2: Try to learn how to use [Telekinesis] to amplify my physical abilities.
Action 3: Try to bond with Geshemblos.
Combat Strategy: N/A

(But seriously, you should be really careful about handing out base stat boosts, Magma. Plus you yourself at first said they can't be changed after being assigned. But if changing base stats is on the table, then i have some plans of my own regarding that. To fix a mistake.)

I know what I said. I just didn't mention how actions could be used to increase them. I had meant that you start as those stats as your bare minimum. I could have worded that better, now that you mentioned it, though.

Besides, you'll need the boosts and there is a limit on how much your stats can increase. I just don't like telling players what those limits are and let them bonk into them on their own.

(I'm mostly trying to not get murdered by mana, not actually getting any mana of my own.  Mana-based instakills are what took him out, after all, and there's a lot of potential if there's some ability to ignore mana flows or spells.  There's also a lot of possible thematic ways to do it, such as absorbing spells and letting the magic dissipate, messing with the flow of mana, becoming transparent to mana, etcetera.)
