[Steam] Toggle stockpile doesn't seem to work?
« on: January 18, 2023, 06:16:35 pm »

I have a stockpile that's linked to take items from a specific workshop, and I have the "Toggle whether the stockpile can take items from anywhere or only from specific workshops and stockpiles" option activated (green). However, the stockpile still continues to fill up with random stuff from other places. Am I misunderstanding something about this toggle stockpile option? Isn't it only supposed to be taking stuff that's coming out of the linked workshop and nowhere else?

Green is the default, meaning that stockpile will Take from anywhere. You need to set it to Red to stop the stockpile from accepting from sources other than the linked workshop. Once it is Red, it will only accept from links (like that workshop).

To try to clarify...
Stockpiles and workshops only Take stuff. They do not Give stuff. When a link says "Give to ...", it really means "that other place is allowed to Take when it wants to".

Stockpiles will Take from anywhere...
- except another stockpile that isn't linked to Give (where Give means "that other place is allowed to Take when it wants to)
- except from a workshop that has Give links to other stockpiles.
- except from a minecart (don't worry about this one yet)

Workshops will Take from anywhere unless there is at least one Take link, then the workshop can only Take from those links. This is how you limit what materials the workshop uses.
Workshops permit any stockpile to Take unless there is at least one Give link, then the workshop will only allow those links to Take. This is how you limit what stockpiles can take from the workshop.

But it won't happen to me, my bit doesn't count etc etc... Just saying, after my recent experiences I couldn't trust the public if I wanted to. People got their risk assessment neurons rotten and replaced with game theory. Folks walk around like fat turkeys taunting the world to slaughter them.

Thank you for the detailed explanation! Things are making a lot more sense now.
