Encrust/Decorate With (Material)/engrave task for Weapons
« on: January 17, 2023, 10:37:46 pm »

With how important finely crafted weapons and armor are to the dwarven aesthetic, it has always seemed odd that there's not more options to decorate them. Dwarven axes and hammers in fiction are usually decorated with runes, encrusted with fancy gems, or inlaid with gold and silver. A testament to craftsdwarfship and blacksmithing, a piece of art and a weapon of war. You can get some decorations, but it's inconsistent and really up to the whims of your craftsmen. Even micromanaging stockpiles has had some of my weapons left untouched while they put bronze studs on a cabinet.

We have a specific interaction to encrust crossbow bolts with gems, why not have similar interactions with other types of decorations for weapons and armor? I really want to give my legendary axedwarves diamond encrusted or gold studded weapons for their named axes, but I can't without lots of micro.

"Games come and go, and we all get tired of some games after time, but Dwarf Fortress seems to grab me by the leg every couple months and drags me back with it's bloody, ASCII claw. I think this game has given me Stockholm syndrome, but I love it so, and it's simplistic style yet extremely complex mechanics are like fine art, like a beautifully crafted ☼Cave Spider Silk Sock☼" - Dirk 3/31/2014
