Outdoor and Indoor Tiles
« on: January 13, 2023, 09:53:20 am »

How can I know if it is indoors or outdoors (apart from the obvious)?
Can I change outdoors into outdoors and otherwise?
I'm mostly interested in windmills (can I make them work underground) and farmplots (can I plant cave plants outside and regular plants in the caves).

I'm assuming you have the Premium version, because in older ones the info is readily available.

There is not direct information (unlike in older versions), but: if some tile is under cover it is "inside", even if it was outside previously, and you have built a cover over it. You can build beds on this tile (unless it's a slope or flooded etc.), but when you try to build a bed outside it displays information "Must be inside".

There is also a light/dark dichotomy, where "light" cannot be changed back to "dark" even if you build a roof over it. This can be discerned on flat surfadces by the "Cavern" keyword: "sand Cavern floor" is "dark", while "sand" is "light", i.e. it was exposed to the surface, however briefly, and stayed that way.

Since windmill require "outside", and "outside" changes into "inside" if there is some floor or wall above it, you cannot build working windmill underground.

But plants planting depends on the "light"/"dark", dark allows subterranean plants, while light allows surface plants. So you can farm surface plants underground, if you have exposed it to the surface, and then covered.

Why would you assume that? The free version of the game is exactly the same and also has this issue. Don't think people have ever needed to qualify that they update their game on time when posting in this forum.

You cannot see the information currently, but it will probably be back soon. It is likely all the info in the wikipedia from 47.05 is still accurate for farmplots and windmills (and someone will say if it is not).

To determine if a tile is "indoors" or "outdoor", check if there is a roof anywhere above the tile or attempt to build furniture that needs be be built indoors (bed, table, etc).

To determine if a tile is "light" or "dark", the method I know is to built a 1-tile farm plot and see what plants can be built there.

But it won't happen to me, my bit doesn't count etc etc... Just saying, after my recent experiences I couldn't trust the public if I wanted to. People got their risk assessment neurons rotten and replaced with game theory. Folks walk around like fat turkeys taunting the world to slaughter them.

But i don't think that these versions differ too much, right?

Looks like they differ in that, at least. On .47, you almost can't not know whether a tile is indoors, lit, above ground. When you loo(k) at anything, it tells you about the tile the cursor is pointing to.

What? No, in free version you can use look command. There's no equivalent in Premium version. When you hover over a tile it shows less information than combination of k/t/q commands from 0.47.

There's also a free version of 50.05 which is the same as the premium only without the art, which is why we should stop using the terms "premium version" or "steam version" to refer to 50+ vs .47.05.
