Simulating Instruments
« on: January 09, 2023, 12:11:07 pm »

Has anyone ever managed to get dwarves to actually play the instruments that are built and stored in a tavern? I have only ever seen them simulate instruments, even though there are instruments available.

I think they need to be performing something that specifically requires those instruments.

Hmm that could make sense, if compositions can use more than 1 of the same intrument.
What I might be doing wrong is that I don't often have more than 1 of each instrument. I should probably just make and buy more instruments then to increase the chances of my tavern's inventory matching a random composition's needs.

Look at what they are simulating a lot and make instruments for them. If it's goblin rap, you might not be able to make the instruments at all (in which case I suggest raiding the Dark Pits until you find some). The description of each musical piece describes the instruments used.

But, yes, if you have the right instruments, dwarves will use them (unless something has changed in 50.0x - I don't have many instruments yet, and lack of "v" function to quickly.pass over the tavern and see what everyone is doing makes it hard to keep track).

Getting the goblins on payroll to tribute you some after a pillaging/conquering spree is also viable. First ever bit of significant tribute they gave me on 47. was a crocodile bone drum,  (which was better than the trollyarn sock the next-year)
