Visitors can marry and breed?
« on: January 08, 2023, 01:14:53 am »

If a male and female pair of other people,
non-dwarf race, such as elves and humans,
migrate to my fortress, will they be able to marry and reproduce?

Yes, it's possible.

Even visitors and invaders can give birth.

Invader is also available?
just take a male and a female pair of invaders
and lock them up and they breed?

Wild animals give birth all the time.  If you capture them in a cage trap and they give birth afterwards the babies will also be in the cage.  I'm not sure if they need to be in direct contact to get pregnant, but it is easy enough to build a pit for them after you have captured them.  I've never noticed any elfs, humans or goblins having children though.

Sentients have to be married or come to the map already pregnant, I believe.

I've had a caged scheming elf visitor give birth once (the child was listed as 'friendly' and didn't do anything -- same happens with invader/animal children). Can't remember another case, so definitely something not common.

I remember hearing of a liaison/diplomat giving birth in someone's fort and abandoning the baby there.

Reading his name would trigger it. Thinking of him would trigger it. No other circumstances would trigger it- it was strictly related to the concept of Bill Clinton entering the conscious mind.

maybe her family was not knowing that she was pregnant, and so she left "as diplomat" to carry on and hide her shame because she was not married yet and her familly was greately conservative.
sad storry :(, hope you took good care of the poor child.
