Maia Sanders: Seems it is all. Once the Pilots arrive, we can discuss how exactly they will be lodged in the available Quarters. I am sure that Integration Camp Team will send us some notices beforehand how well the teenagers mesh.

Chief Secretary steps into the command room.

Maia Sanders: Greetings, Commander Greene, Subcommander Shiek, Subcommander Scarlet. I hope the construction noise of the ground and aeronautics hangars isn't too troublesome?

I have received confirmation from the Starlight Corporation handlers that our 8 Pilots have arrived at Neo-Amanotsugi's Regional Airport and will arrive within half an hour at our Base Site. I need to discuss with you the specifics of their lodgings. Teenagers value independence and privacy, but it is obvious we will have to lodge them in Pairs, unless you wanted to house Teams each in their own Quarter.

Also, I have received a report from Integration Camp. Would you like to view it now or after we assign the Quarters?

Before we assign lodgings, please. If it has information on how they interacted, it’ll likely be useful for making the best judgements.

Maia Sanders: Of course. Let me put it onto the holo-screen...

Starlight Corporation Integration Camp Report 8th Late Winter 1001, relating to:
Integration activities of 8 Pilots from Starlight Mechanized Corps (arrived 1st Late Winter 1001)

Day 1:
Initial meet-and-greet went without incidents, and team assignments were met with no protests.
Sota Tamayashi and Johann Eduard Ostfalk have spent most of the day together. Overheard conversations included food, and it seems they talked about their families and private matters as well. It seems the two have very quickly formed a bond between themselves.
Day 2:
During midday activities, Sota Tamayashi set up a kickball match between Team Sword and Team Shield. He was able to captain the team quite well, and his team members seemingly naturally accepted his role as team leader, even if the end score was 0:1 because of Team Sword's better endurance and ability to control the game field.
Later that day, Arthur Lovelace pulled his team into preparing the evening meal. He was seen directing his team mates but also participating in the cooking activities himself. His team members seemingly naturally accepted his role as team leader.
Day 3:
Ichirou Natsugawa and Carla Whiteforest have spent most of the day together, lounging at the observation tarrace and discussing their favorite topics, which included smackball, engineering and mecha. It seems the two have quickly formed a bond between themselves.
Day 4:
Arthur Lovelace and Sota Tamayashi had an argument about the latter's use of smokeleaf sticks in public areas, during which Arthur accused Sota of being bad influence on younger teammates. Their argument was broken by one of the staff, and the two avoided each other for remainder of the day.
Meanwhile, Josephine Fontainblanc and Eva Wilhelmina Langrisser have spent most of the day at the local park, discussing fashion and cosmetics. It seems the the two have quickly formed a bond between themselves.
Day 5:
Thedros Palaikos and Josephine Fontainblanc have hosted a horror movie watchalong in one of the private viewing halls for their fellow Pilots. Mister Lovelace and Miss Whiteforest didn't attend, saying they don't like that kind of stuff. All others were present during the watchalong.
Day 6:
Ichirou Natsugawa visited the nurse's office. It seems the horror movies seen the previous day affected his ability to sleep and induced unpleasant dreams. The files containing the nurse's interview with Mister Natsugawa was forwarded to the staff of the Small Hospital at SMC Base Site in Neo-Amanotsugi City for further examination.
Day 7:
Sota Tamayashi and Johann Eduard Ostfalk had an argument with Carla Whiteforest about Carla's spreading rumors that Sota and Johann are 'an item'. It seems that one of their times together were misinterpreted by Miss Whiteforest and became basis for her gossiping. Carla's defense was that 'it's all like in one of her romance novels' and the two boys have nothing to hide, which further deepened their displeasure with the issue. Staff reprimanded Miss Whiteforest for jumping to conclusions and for spreading misinformation about her fellow Pilots.
The final hours at the Integration Camp were spent without incident, with the Pilots packing up and preparing for the night trip via DYAirlines chartered passenger plane to Neo-Amanotsugi City.

This raport is now concluded.
Chief of Starlight Corporation Integration Camp, J.K.Ester.

Maia Sanders: Well, their stay there sure was colorful.

The incidents with Natsugawa's sleeping problems and Whiteforest's gossiping seem to be particularly important to note down.

Whiteforest seems like one to watch for further conflicts down the road. Gossip is a terrible thing, it eats at people quickly.

We seem to have some room mate pairs already, and considering these teenagers will likely be fighting on the same team when the Mu drop in for a party, I'd say we should avoid grouping them by teams unless the Commander wishes to have some flexibility for adding new teams later.

Otherwise they seem in high spirits considering what they're going to be going up against. Let's hope it's a good sign for the future.

#18 Josephine Fountainblanc:

Friction with Carla Whiteforest over gossiping

Whilst there has been some friction, we've had the good fortune of it not occurring within teams. It is worth noting that our two team leader candidates have friction, and thus that may trickle down to their teams unless we are cautious. So although we have a number of potential room mate pairs within teams, I would want to intentionally mix the teams where possible to forge those cross-team bonds. Competition is fine, so long as there is no bad blood behind it.

However, there is also the question of mixed vs segregated gender quarters, especially where half the roster are Minors. That would put Carla, Eva and Josephine together, for some cross-team bonding, however there's a risk of Carla being excluded due to a lack of shared interest. We would also have to put three boys together (as the alternative is one boy getting his own room), and that requires us to either have all of one Team a triple room in one or the other triple room, or for Sota, Thedros and Ichirou to share a room, with Arthur and Johann as the double. This risks further friction between Arthur and Sota via Johann.

An alternative is two doubles for each team, or pairing up the adults and thr Minors separately

Or we could play it the college dormroom way and just draw straws. That's never gone wrong before, right?

I think we'll be better off risking the minors and adults issue than we would be trying to crowd them. It's up to them to tell us and if it causes incidents, then we'll worry about it then.

For the sake of their sanity we may wish to avoid having Sota and Johann together in the same room. It'll only inflame Whiteforest's imagination.
My personal vote remains pairing one Sword and one Shield together, prioritizing those who have already struck a chord together.

Commander Greene has the team break for coffee and other refreshments for a bit, but upon returning to the meeting room, it seems he's come to a decision.

"I've decided that setting each room to have a member each from Sword and Shield would be for the best. We're not able to make sure that the boys and girls are perfectly separated, but oh well. We only need one room of overlap."

He passes around a sheet of paper:
Quote
Room 1: Carla, Eva
Room 2: Josephine, Ichirou
Room 3: Thedros, Sota
Room 4: Arthur, Johann
"I believe that this would be, if not the best set of roommates, then at least a reasonable one. If anybody has objections, feel free to voice them, but I don't believe there should be any particularly notable issues with this arrangement."

My main concern Commander, is Arthur and Johann. Whilst there's no animosity between them directly, Johann is close friends with Sota, who Arthur has friction with. There's the potential for issues here, either with Johann acting as a proxy for Sota, or a division of loyalty between his team leader and his room mate. A minor issue may also occur with Josephine's enjoyment of horror movies and Ichirou's negative reaction to them.

I would instead have Ichirou and Johann room together, along with Arthur and Josephine. I don't see any particular issues with either of those pairings. Putting Josephine and Thedros together seems tempting, due to their mutual appreciation of horror, but that would end up with three out of four rooms being mixed dorms.

“Although Arthur would be a reasonable roommate for Josephine, I don’t believe it would be a good idea to put Ichirou and Johann together. Johann was one of the victims of Carla’s gossip, while Ichirou is the only pilot who’s made a bond with Carla. If anything, that seems like it would create even greater friction than between Arthur and Johann, and friction that we’d have less ability to address.

Hmn...

If it were Carla and Josephine in room 1... perhaps Ichirou and Eva in 2... but no, that’d still leave the current issue with the other two pairs. And pairing Ichirou with either of Sota or Johann can lead to friction from Carla’s gossip.

Your point regarding Arthur and Johann is valid, but I don’t believe there’s anything we can do to properly address it without creating more issues. The potential issues between Josephine and Ichirou, though, is more easily dealt with. Yes, let’s switch Josephine and Eva in the rooming lists. Aside from that, though, I don’t think there’s much we can do.”

Room 2: Josephine, Ichirou, Eva
Room 3: Thedros, Sota

Maia Sanders: Very well, I shall pass these arrangements to the rest of the staff.

The holo-comms machine on the desk starts beeping. Sanders pushes a button and a holo-projection appears in the room. A young man in the holo-projection salutes.

Officer: Commander Greene, Miss Sanders, Subcommanders, the unmanned carrier bus with our Pilots onboard has just stopped at our Base Site. The kids have already started removing their luggage from the bus and seem to be expecting their superior to greet them. Should I assemble the Teams in the Mecha Bay perhaps for an introductory briefing?

Commander Greene and Subcommanders:
A) Greet the teams?
B) Don't greet the teams?

A. It'd be improper to not at least greet them, especially when we barely have anything to do personally yet.
