Save file can't be loaded?

So I'm playing the steam version of the game and I can't load any save files from after a certain point in my fortress. The game just crashes as if the save was corrupt. Any idea what could be causing it? Too many invaders for the game to handle, maybe? Too many barrels of meat? I would really rather not abandon this fortress.  :'(

Known bug from cave invaders.  To fix, try loading a previous save that doesn't crash and disable cave invaders in the options.
