STEAM: Burying Dwarves?
« on: December 19, 2022, 04:03:43 am »

Hello everyone. I just have a quick question about burying my dwarves. I have a rather large room with many coffins. If i set the room as a tomb it seems its only for one dwarf but if i dont set it to anything it says it must be made into a tomb for burials to take place....i dont understand what im supposed to do. make many individual rooms just to bury a dwarf? I thought you can have one large room with many coffins and they will put the dwarves in the coffins. What exactly do I need to do to bury my dwarves?

Thank you.

OK. I think i know what i have to do. Instead of making a big tomb zone i need to make a 1x1 tomb zone on all the coffins? If someone can confirm this i would appreciate it.

Thank you.

Yup, that's the way it works now. However, the "Multi" option is very clever, and if you build multiple enclosed tombs, you can then use the tomb designation tool with "Multi" selected, and it'll make each of them a tomb without you having to do it manually, one at a time.

The "Multi" tool also works for bedrooms, offices, dining rooms, etc.

Yep. Not quite clever enough though. As others have  pointed out, most players don't make separate rooms for their "normal Dwarf" tombs. So have to make do with manually making all the 1x1 zones.

Unclear whether that's a limitation of the system (probably) or if Toady's image of a "normal" dwarf burial is a coffin in a room for each individual dwarf. Like a miniature copy of the bedroom floor I suppose...

I must have missed the "multi" thing, I'll have to look for that cause it's rather a pain as-is. I would like to see a "graveyard" option where you can have the big room and just designate it as "heeey, dwarfs can be buried here thanks."

I vaguely recall 1 of the pre-release videos showing bodies being dumped into the magma.  Perhaps the intended Dwarven way is just to engrave slabs for everybody and have an actual graveyard?  Storing remains in tombs for only the important dwarves?
