(Steam) Picking which mechanisms to use for linking levers
« on: December 15, 2022, 09:08:46 pm »

Building a pump stack, can't seem to figure out how to make so that I can choose the mechanisms for the linking. It shows me which ones will be used, but clicking on that just seems to cancel things up.

I had the same problem, needed magma-safe and I couldn't select them.  I ended up forbidding all the mechanisms I didn't want used.

Please God some help here!!!. I am definitely a casual DF player and have been learning to play for a decade maybe more. I always used a noob pack but paid attention. I am really enjoying a vanilla play through using all the things i learned on easy mode but DAM!

I cant select magma safe mech's !!!
I have tried forbidding the mech's from teh stocks screen. that fails because they include the ones built...

I seem to have dozens of mech's in stock but I have exactly 7 bridges and 5 levers. I didnt think I built that many but tracking them down does not seem to be worth the trouble. I started with the magma safe location first and noticeed all the mech's that was after building the 5 levers. this has really killed my desire to play.

I bought the steam edition because I wanted to support DF in a small way. I dont buy games because most dont interest me and i cant really justify the cost of most games. I do not regret the purchase at all. i am just frustrated. I know they will do something eventually or a mod will come along but DAM I found a great embark and my FIRST volcano. I didnt want to wast it. if i leave it i will forget what i was ding and never get back to it. just venting. if anyone has any suggestions hit me up..please!

would there be a way to show only magma-safe items and exclude used items. thatw would help in so many places. im sure i will think of something to add.

AFAIK there is currently no way to do this in the steam version beyond forbidding all non-magmasafe ones.

Which sucks because then you need to produce twice as many magmasafe ones as you actually need. Hope you embarked on bauxite.

Aurora on small monitors:
1. Game Parameters -> Reduced Height Windows.
2. Lock taskbar to the right side of your desktop.
3. Run Resize Enable

thanks i actually have plenty of mag-safe stone, i embarked accidental on the rim of a volcano.
does forbidding all mechanisms but the magma-safe ones prevent the usage of levers? it seemed to but i was not 100% sure.
I seem to have way more mechanisms than i thought. it would be helpful if the in-use ones did not shoe in the lists.
I took a couple of days off from the fort, my first vanilla run.
I want to get back to it before i forget what i was doing, a real danger for me. it doesn't take long either.  :)
they seem to have  broken/changed some important quality of life ( to me anyway) way of doing things. I do like the UI but I miss being able to use Keystrokes as well. that I think is the big one for me. I was tempted do go back to the newb packs.
but damn I like this embark. my only volcano.

To avoid problems with mass-forbidding mechanisms:
- pause
- forbid the non-magma-safe
- go to the lever and set up the link (you may need to unforbid that lever's mechanism)
- unforbid
- unpause

People got their risk assessment neurons rotten and replaced with game theory. Folks walk around like fat turkeys taunting the world to slaughter them.
