I have seen lots of people discussing how they embarked at a volcano, but when I try, I simply cannot locate any.  The world map in the steam edition is so unreasonably small that I cannot possibly make out most of the details, so I simply so cannot even see the volcanos to even know what to look for.

In the past, this was pretty easy, but now, I cant search for volcanos on embark (I think this was a DFhack feature that didnt get integrated), and the extremely small tiles make it so I cannot even see anything

Am I missing a search feature or setting?

Maybe lower the resolution? They're pretty obvious on my 1920x1080 monitor.

When I lower the resolution in full screen from 4k to 1080p, it doesnt actually make anything bigger, what it does is shrink the window into a box that takes up 1/4th of my screen, and then doesnt let me resize it any.

Oh, well, that's a problem, yeah.
In the screenshot below (if it works, forget how this forum does images...), I've highlighted the volcanoes on my map. Mouseover them and the name of the volcano appears on the right. If you can't read the info display on the right either, then just gonna have to wait for DF to be more 4K compatible I suppose. You also get them in the middle of mountain ranges. Bit harder to spot, but should be a blob of magma-red in there somewhere.

When you create a new world go into the detail map settings and increase the value for minimum number of volcanoes to something like 50.
You will have multiple volcanos spread around the map to settle at.

No reason not to crank the volcano number up to 200.

edit: if you edit the worldgen text file directly, you can have it add as many volcanoes as you want -- 600, 800, 1000. You'll have to configure the world gen settings though to make sure there are enough high volcanism squares.
