You get up and stumble to the corner, grabbing the pot as you go.  It's heavier than you expected, quietly scraping against the floor as you pick it up.  It is vaugely comforting though.  You hug it tightly, covering your mouth with your other hand in hopes of keeping yourself from making any further noise.

You hold that position, watching the entrance to the cell.  The soft whooshing sounds are getting closer.  And faster.  You shiver, worried that whatever it is heard you when you picked up the pot.

The sounds stop as something large moves in front of the door.



You hold your breath, staring at the shadow it's casting into your cell.  It did hear you, there's no other possible reason it stopped right there.  You hold perfectly still, watching and listening intently for any hint as to what it will do.  But there's no noise, the air sounds completely dead.  If not for the shadow, you wouldn't know there was anything outside at all.

...And then it moves, walking past.  The strange airy whooshing sound resumes, and you realize it's the sound of the thing's footsteps.  They're worryingly quiet, considering the thing's size.  Your ears are very sensitive, and yet it's still a little hard to hear.

You listen to it walking away, the sound of its soft footsteps quickly fading into the distance.  Only once you can't hear it anymore do you allow yourself to look away from the doorway, your mind afraid it'll come sprinting back towards you all of a sudden.



After about a minute, you start to breath again.  Your heart is pounding.  At least that seems to be helping with the sick prickly feeling.  You're not finding it as hard to think anymore... though your newfound clarity of thought is focused on imagining what kind of monster that was.  Now you're not just trapped alone in some awful dungeon, you're trapped alone in some awful dungeon with distressingly stealthy monsters!

Rummage through the clothes. There should be a single lockpick in your pocket.

In strange dungeons like this, there is always a single lockpick on hand.

The arrows are probably iron, shaft and arrowhead whole. Try using them as lockpicks!

Examine that debris on the stairs. Are they just leaving stone chunks lying around nowadays? What kind of dungeon is this!

Given the light source of the door, those are droplets of water, and the light is it scattering off the back of the droplet.

It's bolted shut on the left side, with a padlock securing the bolt.

That's dumb.  You don't have any lockpicks, you've never even held a lockpick before.  There's no reason for you to suddenly--



...There was a lockpick in your pocket.  You... have no idea how it could have possibly gotten there.  That might be able to open the padlock, but you've never used a lockpick before.  You don't even know how it works.

Right, might as well check.  If there's a lockpick in your pocket, why wouldn't there be a key in the cell?






AHH THERE'S SOMETHING INSIDE STARING AT YOU!

You drop the pot out of surprise, the thing inside making a loud squeak when the pot hits the ground.  The pot rolls away, with you pressed against the wall and staring at it, heart pounding once again.



You hold very still as you watch the pot.  That was probably overreacting.  But it surprised you!  That thing has been inside the pot this whole time, staring at you!  And it looked so weird!  And, and, you had just been hiding from the creepy quiet monster outside your cell, you're still on edge!

...Oh god, what if that thing heard the squeak?  What if the thing in the pot is its baby, or something like that?  You might have just made it angry.



The pot critter in question walks out of the pot while you're worrying.  At least it seems you didn't actually hurt it, or scare it.  It just looks around curiously, with that dumb little smile.  It would be cute, if only you weren't so scared and stressed right now.

That- umm. Get the door open. No matter what that's what we need to be doing now. Shouldn't be too complex, just put the hook end in the key hole and feel around for something to manipulate.
