Give us a 'mass tomb' option or similar
« on: December 09, 2022, 03:26:25 am »

So currently in DF premium you can't use coffins on their own, they have to be in a tomb. The problem is tombs seem to only allow one dwarf to be buried per tomb, not per coffin. The workaround seems to be to make 1x1 rooms with doors, so when you make a tomb it makes several individual tombs in one click.

My suggestion is to either give us a second tomb option, similar to how dormitories work, or make it so tombs default to filling the coffins.

I thought I was going crazy trying to find how coffins work now lol. Yes please, cutting 'public use' coffins is clearly an oversight I hope to see fixed. Steam players are gonna see a lot of ghosts!

That's something I just stumbled yesterday on. I felt like I was going crazy thinking I had to always make a new zone each time a dwarf died, since I knew there used to be a way to assign a burial room for a population rather than individual dwarves.

There was never a way to assign a burial room for a population.

It was: Place coffin - Mark for burial.
or
Place coffin - Designate it as a large room for burying a noble in.

Which has been replaced with: Place coffin - Mark as a tiny one tile tomb, or a large expensive tomb as you like (less intuitive, but it is now only one function).

Mass tiny tombs should be a thing, I'm sure Tarn even mentioned it in a stream while explaining the new bedrooms system.

Yeah, but you have to close them off in a door, which is more annoying.

Ah, yup, that's annoying.
Or intended. I mean, big room full of coffins is kind of creepy...

What about dumping them down a magma chute, and slabbing ‘em?

By assigning I mean being able to make a tomb using 1 coffin, and enlarging it enough to involve many other coffins, and then set "Use for Burial" for each coffin to 'Y' and each time a citizen died, they would be brought in one of the coffins. Somehow that can't be done in the Steam version: When I placed multiple coffins in a tomb, no matter what, all the tombs ended up being automatically assigned to a single dead Dwarf, rather than individual Dwarves.

We'll...you could do that, but coffins didn't ever need to be in a tomb, you just marked them "use for burial:Yes". Putting them in a tomb zone had no effect.

As opposed to an irl cemetery, a field full of graves?

Coffins buried in holes, away from the place where we walk, yes.
We're looking at gravestones, not coffins. (Well, I mean, maybe it works differently where you're from...). :)

Catacombs exist. (And them there are ossuaries.)

Agree. I'd rather make 1 or 2 zones instead of 100 individual ones.

I stuff 20 coffins in a room and then need to make 20 one-tile zones around each coffin. Lemme just make 1 big zone for the room.
