Steam Edition: Weird stone, I think?
« on: December 08, 2022, 05:49:53 pm »

While mining out a new fort last night, I came across two odd 'stones'. I dont know if they appear in FreeDF, I dont recall ever seeing them in that version at least.

"Wicked Gloom"
"Blighted Fog"

They appear as boulders on the ground, they popped up in the same way that minerals and gems did in the alerts, and when I look at them they seem like they could be stone. Useable in crafting furniture n such. But they dont appear under any of the stone menus.

As far I am aware I'm not in an evil biome, though I will add that I'm not 100% sure on that - the info on the new world screen I found less than helpful in that regard, at least so far.

Has anyone else found these, or have some idea of what I am experiencing?

That... is very much new, that's for sure.

By any chance did these show up inside a cluster of a bunch of rare gems that seemed otherwise out-of-place?

Sounds like a raw duplication error…

Just digging through conglomerate, and not too far beneath the surface.

Hrm... I will have to check that. There shouldnt be, but I do have a modded set of the material raws that I use to remove aquifers, but Im pretty sure I unloaded teh vanilla one. maybe I didnt.

After seeing this, I think you should try and mine some out.

Nothing but stone-looking boulders called 'wicked gloom'. I'll keep the save game around for later exploration, but for now im going to assume its duplicate RAW and move on to a new game

Didn't Toady fix the duplicated RAW issue?

Reading his name would trigger it. Thinking of him would trigger it. No other circumstances would trigger it- it was strictly related to the concept of Bill Clinton entering the conscious mind.

If you’re talking about the automatic CUT proposal, then, iirc, it didn’t make it in.

Found one of the new HFS in my game. Looks like those are just obsidian, so it probably is RAW duplication after all.

You have duplicated raws. You should use CUT_INORGANIC instead of removing the vanilla raw for your mod.

Just throwing it out here that the game is very big, so it's possible this has always been in the game for x number of versions without anybody adding it to the wiki.

In my experience stuff that happens to just a few players can sometimes be missing from the wiki.

Example: Experiments can't become vampires. I found out about that and added it to the wiki. I guess experiments were like that since they were created, but I also get very few players tried to make an experiment char become a vampire, so that's why it wasn't in the wiki.

Would have been found via DFHack and mentioned somewhere on the forums.

It has been found. These are evil rains materials, from evil biomes. They only show up in the ground with duplicated raws. That's why I'm so confident up there.
