yeah yeah, we all know throwing is overpowered right now. So I figured I'd try overpowered throwing plus overpowered adamantium wrapped up in a ballista bolt for the extra cheese factor.

FWIW the bolt severs whatever it hits, every time, and only weighs like 16 units  :p

I recently had an epic fight in one of the human towns. After losing the use of both arms, my adventurer went on a rampage using only his mouth, and a POWERFUL weapon it proved to be! This is about a quarter of the rampage, nearing the end.

quote:

You bite the Crossbowman in the upper body!
It is mangled!
The Crossbowman's liver has been torn!
The Crossbowman's upper spine has been mangled!
You latch on firmly!
You shake the Crossbowman around by the upper body!
It is torn into pieces!
Us Luthicuro, Crossbowman has been struck down.
You jump away from the flying iron bolt!
You bite the Crossbowman in the right upper leg!
It is torn!
The Crossbowman's hip has been sprained!
You latch on firmly!
You shake The Crossbowman around by the right upper leg!
A chunk is torn away!
You miss The Crossbowman!
The Child misses You!
You counterstrike!
You bite The Child in the head!
It is broken!
The Child's brain has been broken!
You latch on firmly!
The Child falls over!
You shake The Child around by the head!
The Child loses hold of the Rope reed cap!
The head is ripped away and remains in Your grip!
Didde Imexem, Child has been struck down!
You bite The Crossbowman in the head!
It is badly ripped!
The Crossbowman has been stunned!
The Crossbowman's right eye has been torn out!
The Crossbowman's nose has been torn!
Crossbowman neck has been badly torn!
You latch on firmly to The Crossbowman's throat!
Sinur Elino, Crossbowman has become enraged!
You shake The Crossbowman around by the throat!
The Crossbowman's throat has been torn out!
You bite The Crossbowman in the right hand!
It is torn!
The Crossbowman's right wrist has been sprained!
You latch on firmly!
You shake The Crossbowman around by the right hand!
A chunk is torn away!
The Crossbowman gives into pain.
The Crossbowman falls over.
You bite The Crossbowman in the right lower arm!
It is broken!
The Crossbowman's right elbow has been badly sprained
You latch on firmly!
You shake The Crossbowman around by the right lower arm!
A chunk is torn away!
You bite The Crossbowman in the upper body!
It is badly ripped!
The Crossbowman's heart has been pierced!
You latch on firmly!
You shake The Crossbowman around by the upper body!
A chunk is torn away!
Sinur Elino, Crossbowman has been struck down!

Unfortunately, after leaving the map, my adventurer healed and regained the use of his arms, meaning I was unable to proceed with my biting rampage...
Also, the contents of his mouth made for some interesting reading :

He must have one hell of a big mouth....

A new adventurer, wandering into her first cave with one spearman buddy.

After a small amount of searching and the weakling spearman becoming crippled by an antman, she comes across the cave's giant.

The battle lasts for more than a day, the adventurer's copper scimitar unable to injure the giant, and the adventurer being too nimble and well armored for the giant's attacks (weilding the now deceased spearman's loincloth) to be effective.  The giant is covered with many small cuts and bruses (from innumerable small rocks, antman limbs and a single thrown copper spear) and he actually starts to run away! Leaving the cave!

The adventurer gives chase, scooping up the discarded copper spear on her way out and flings it at the fleeing giant, piercing his leg and tripping him up, two spaces from the map edge!  The adventurer then pounces, grabbing the embedded spear, and twisting it with all her might, causing the giant to bleed to death!  Victory!

And then, not 10 turns later, a random giant bat outside the cave attacks the adventurer on her way back to "requisition" the spearman's valuables, biting her in the head, and promptly ripping it off. Killing her...

P.S. And THAT my friends is why I love Dwarf Fortress

It wasn't really gruesome, but it was a funny coincidence. I've posted the story in this thread;  http://www.bay12games.com/cgi-local/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=12&t=000214

oh god wow...

I really hope Toady adds the ability to be able to select things to bite in the wrestle menu. Instead of having both of your arms disabled...

That was hilarious by the way.

I was playing as a bowman who normally used a sword to conserve arrows (since the bow uses sword skill when smacking people with it, it was a good fit), and a cave boss came out of nowhere and proceeded to mortally wound my guy within two or three rounds, forcing him to drop the sword. Knowing that my guy would die imminently, I had him pull out the bow and with his dying gasp, the bowman plunged one arrow straight through the heart and both lungs of the cave boss. My guy was struck again and exploded into gore immediately after, but I hung about long enough to watch the named boss bleed to death. It was not an original turn of events, but the fact that it was me who dealt the lethal bow shot instead of the other guy was certainly gratifying.

Yeah, avenge your own death posthumously...  That's a relatively common scenario, which is odd, considering that magic and ghosts are nowhere near implementation yet.  :)

Ghosts, eh?  Makes me think of the possible scenario wherein you get your next quest from a ghost asking you to avenge his/her death instead of just the mayor.

I don't have the log of it anymore, but a certain Grabcrotch the Dwarf has been methodically dismembered by a hydra before dying. A friend of mine has also lost 40+ adventurers to one titan, or so he says.

I'd also add this.

Naming dwarves Grabcrotch, followed by an oft-inappropriate last name is an inside joke. The first was named Grabcritch Shinkicker. >_>

I had this awesome fight with a Titan. My only companion was a drunk, he kept trying to wrestle the titan, and sometimes even took him to the ground with him, while I thrusted with my Iron Spear. Eventually I leveled the spear skill and pierced its limbs and killed it. Delighted by the awesome fight I took two steps only to have my upper body ripped by a giant cave spider... Thos buggers are broken.

Yeah, those cave spiders are some kind of Arachminators.

I, a relatively successful elven swordsman, having killed a giant, a cyclops, some zombie [weapon]lords, and a horde of other undead, with a party of equally famed poor souls, consisting of two hammerdwarves, one marksdwarf, two elven spearmen and one swordsman, have entered a random cave in search of loot and exp.
We found 1 (one. ONE.) giant cave spider. Of the seven, I died second. I didn't even get hit by webs initially, I just kinda saw it, it bit me, I fell unconscious, it ripped apart a hammerdwarf, bit me in the head and tore it away, went through the spearmen, immobilized the rest of the company, and chewed on them as they tried to break free. All it got was a bruised cephalothorax (second hammerdwarf) and some three or four bolts in it legs, I don't remember exactly. Just.... damn.

I already posted this in the Cavespiders thread, but figure I'll put it here too.

If this was the anticlimactic death thread, I'd just post every fight I've ever had with a bowman...ever. Though I bet I would have killed that last one if my game didn't lag and send me running past the kobold so he could happily shoot me in the ass.
