Dungeon Types and Locations
« on: November 18, 2006, 12:33:00 pm »

I was just interested to know how the different dungeon types work in the world.  What types of dungeons exist?

So far I've run into:

Caves
Ruins (mostly subterranean)
Ruins (mostly above ground, like towers)
Fortresses (Goblin)
Fortresses (Kobold)

So I've heard there are Pyramids.  Are these just fortresses?  Or have I missed them so far?

Do the locations of these dungeons depend on their biome?  It seems that fortresses are only found in the mountain regions.  I'm actually really surprised at the diversity of locations.  Each place has a completely unique layout.

Pyramids are structures in ruins that have many layers going up, and at the pinnacle, an entrance to the inner levels of the pyramid.

I think they are the towers you speak of.

There are towers as well. I climbed an tower 8 floors tall. And I had a punctured lung from a pikemaster on the ground floor of the tower while doing.

The adventurer in question was named Dawnrazor. He was uber!

Yeah, I think this was I tower I saw.  It was square and stayed the same size going up.  The walls were pillars I think, so Pyramids must get more narrow as you rise.  Are pyramids found only in deserts?  Are there any site specific dungeons in the tundra, like ice caves?

I think Toady has a lot of plans for dungeons.

You know what would be interesting, is if there were "towers" that were open, like so:

code:

+++++++++++++++
+O++O++O++O++O+
++++++>++++++++
+++++++++++++++
+O++O++O++O++O+
+++++++++++++++
+++++++++<+++++
+O++O++O++O++O+
+++++++++++++++

with stairs going to more levels that were similar. Perhaps with the pilliars closer together or something, I'm not sure. Certianly would paint a strange mental image...

I wonder if there will be magical Escher-like dungeons  :)
