OPPORTUNITY PHASE 8

The Watch

1. The Watch hear the latest from their offshoot, Watchtower. Things are tumultuous in Leadville and the new team are just getting their footing. Saluki is trying to convince Chiffon to have another go at heroing and join the team, strictly back-of-house, no front-line stuff, but Chiffon is trying to give the hero pastry business in Zircon a decent go... perhaps when things calm down? Other than that, while they set up, Watchtower would appreciate a bit of help from a more senior hero... but they'll understand if things are too hectic to leave Zircon right now.
Offer: A hero in the Watch goes to Leadville to give more training and assistance to the new team, the hero and Saluki gain the trait "Organized" and The Watch are more likely to gain cross-overs in future from Watchtower, but the hero will miss the next mission phase.

2. Having seen Ziggurat's almighty architectural prowess, Retry considers asking him to do some work on their base... he refuses to do any major works in a graveyard after what just happens, but says he could build a base of any-size offshore... it would mean abandoning their current place though, as well as any pretence at base secrecy.
Offer: +1 base size, Ziggurat misses the next mission phase and the base moves to any neighbourhood except Greenbelt or Montgomery.

Dandy Lads

1. Marigold is keen on really helping people with her endless wealth, and has a top secret mission for the Man in Grey. But there's just a little assurance she needs, to make sure he's truly committed. Is he just in it for the money himself? Can he return the golden apple?
Offer: The Man in Grey gains the trait "Spy" and the Dandy Lads gain Cross-over: Marigold, but the Man in Grey loses trait "Wealthy" and misses the next mission phase

Route Horizon

1. If wading through literal shit wasn't bad enough, there's a rumour circulating that Endless Highway has no face under his helmet. He considers showing his face with a conventional mask one time to put the rumour to bed. Or... he could let the rumour fester...
Offer: Endless Highway gains +1 fame and +1 infamy "no face"

2. Reverso didn't enjoy flinging gribbling monstrosities up in the tight confines of the sewer only for them to keep running at him along the low ceilings. He considers starting a proper regimen of fight training with his colleagues.
Offer: Ponche, Swan Dive, Endless Highway, Longfire, and any future member of the team all gain the trait "Brawler" or "Martial Artist" or "Boxer" (your choice), but the team loses its speed bonus and ability to patrol as the training eats into mission time.

House Edge

1. PB is on edge since Luke's body vaporised. There's a lot that can be done as a one-man army. Patrolling, for one thing. It'd take some effort to set up the proper protocols but could be worth it if he thought he'd be doing a lot of patrolling.
Offer: PB may patrol three neighbourhoods during any future mission phase instead of just one, but it'd cost -1 income to set up the ammo and logistics supplies.

RECRUITMENT PHASE 9

Removing Team Members

Spoiler: Letting Members Go (click to show/hide)

Hiring
Everyone who has slots may either seek to recruit one hero from the recruitment pool OR they may hold tryouts to fill all slots.

Due to the Mayor's Clemency: in addition to any other recruitment, teams may take one one villain in custody onto their team (ignoring requirements like fame and max team size). Once they are redeemed (fame higher than infamy), you may recruit again in this way. Villains recruited still count towards your team size as normal. Villains have fame 0 by default.

You can't recruit someone with a higher fame than your team's fame. If two people try to recruit the same hero from the pool, I'll flip to see who gets to them first.

In the end Luke always ended up relying on his luck, even if he intended to go into superheroing to make something of himself without relying on it. And even his luck wasn't infinite. He never prepared for his death. Maybe he never thought he'd die. So its up to the four remaining members to pick the new leader among themselves, over a mediocre dinner at Big Pig's in memoriam. LB was out as an insane criminal, but the others all had fair claim to it. PB was the most senior living member, The Spork had earned the respect of Tin Soldier and possibly vote if it came down to it, and Tin Soldier himself was the most experienced of the heroes but the one with least seniority in House Edge. In the end PB mentioned he picked members at random, and they decided they may as well keep up the tradition hoping a bit of his luck stayed in-house. Each of them handed a straw to Lord Bombarrel, who mixed them behind his back. Whoever picked the short straw would end up the next leader of House Edge.

Tin Soldier ended up with the position. His first order of business was filling the now-empty spot in their roster.

Recruit Little Old Tin Soldier V2 AKA Bakal. She'll learn a lot from Tin Soldier. Tin Soldier is the new leader of House Edge. Ethos change to match Tin Soldier's view of heroism, whatever that is. He seems less killy? Take the Opportunity. I've never actually used Patrol before but I'm pretty sure I can abuse this to effectively deploy PB to three different missions.

No Recruitment, as we still don't have capacity, but I do need the manpower. Protection Inc offers Clemency to Zirconia.

Important - I initially missed off the high profile fame. Everyone who took part in the two high profile missions (King Cleaver, Bad Joke) gained an additional +1 fame. I've updated the mission report. (This is only really relevant for Stirk and Kashyyk.)

TEAM IDENTITY PHASE

This is a special phase. From now until they end of the game, you may at any time pick x1 team identity. This choice is almost always permanent and no two teams can pick the same identity, so think carefully but don't leave it too long.

These identities give a unique specialisation for your team, with an associated drawback. You may only pick a new identity if your old identity is completely invalidated (such as being rivals with a team that is eliminated, or becoming a villain team when you're a Clemency Club.)

This will be processed before recruitment and opportunity phase, so if you pick something that gives you an additional opportunity, I'll give it to you now.

The Watch assumes the Big Tent identity.
We are still doing cohesion tryouts and taking both opportunities.

Some of those would be nice to know about at the start of the game given they would require total team overhauls  :P

I’ll take Self Made since I’m the only one capable of making things who hasn’t picked one yet.

NQT only recently came up with them. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Anyway, that’s also why there’s a lot of them available, with multiple being aimed at roughly similar end results, even if they mechanism by which they reach them differs.

I'm not really thrilled with any of these. Of course, if Friendship Club allowed more people I'd take it, but Chase has too many friends! I guess I'll wait around and maybe settle for Spy or Retcon if nobody wants them.
Can't recruit, either.

RECRUITMENT REPORT 9

The Watch hold a tryout. (4+2) Six heroes attend:

Spoiler: The Watch Tryouts (click to show/hide)

Black Box, Bitter Candy, Psyla LXI, and Brutus were considered most cohesive:

Name |   Known Powers | Traits | Fame
Black Box | ??? | [hidden], [hidden], [hidden] | -1
Bitter Candy | Shrinking | Jaded, Practical, Authentic, Hates Nitrox, Distrusts Ectoboy | 1
Psyla LXI | Insta-reincarnation, Increasing Psychic Power | Cold, Resourceful, Determined | 7
Brutus | Permanent Power Absorption, Detachable Limbs, Magnetic Control, Radioactive Touch, X-Ray Vision | Cold, Analytical, Unfaithful, Self-Perfecting | 10

There was a whole load of new people added to the Watch roster. They tried for cohesion, but it was a hard pick when there were so many positions. Lavateen was outraged not to get the pic and the scandal blew up on social media, while Chap Stick took it in her stride and said she'll try harder next time.

Retry looked over the new candidates. The team had always been unusual, but this newest set of recruits took the biscuit.

First there was Black Box, dressed all in black, what was there to say about them? Nothing.

Next there was Bitter Candy, formerly of the Spider Knights and still wearing a swirl-patterned supersuit. Bitter as his name, but even his grudges are strictly professional.

Psyla LXI was an odd fish, wearing a long white robe, and a purple band around her forehead. She could do impressive things with her mind, finding others, sending thoughts, lifting objects... but she stood detached from the affray. Apparently she had died fifteen times before, each time appearing again as if nothing had happened, but with a slightly different appearance each time, and each time chipping away at her sense of self.

Finally, one of the most famous heroes in the tri-state area, Brutus. He wears a supersuit themed around a toga and laurel crown. He permanently absorbs the powers of the villains he faces, making him feared and hated them. He's been through a series of teams before, each ending in recrimination, but maybe this time will be different.

Protection Inc take on Zirconia with Clemency:

Name | Known Powers | Traits | Infamy | Fame | Motivation
Zirconia | Diamond-like Skin | Local Knowledge, Carefree, Manipulative | 3 | 0 | Money

Zirconia is covered head-to-toe in a shimmering diamond-like skin that is both obscuring and revealing at the same time. She doesn't bother with clothes.

"In a few years this will all be gentrified so it's good you're getting in early before the prices hike," Zirconia says, as she's given the tour of the Warren apartment. "So what do I have to do? Show up to some of your little 'fights'?" She does air quotes. "I can do that..."

House Edge choose Tin Soldier as the new leader. Their Team ethos is changed to:

Killing: We kill as a last resort
Civilians: Stopping the villain is the most important thing
Collateral Damage: We pay for any damages we make

House Edge recruit Bakal:

Name |   Known Powers | Traits | Fame
Bakal | Metal absorption and repulsion | Old, Religious, Kind | 0

"So you're the man that was running around in these old bones," Bakal says to Tin Soldier.

"Guilty as charged, ma'am," Tin Soldier says. "I did a full regimen of stretches and I got that mole checked out."

"The less said about all that, the better," Bakal says, warming her old hands with a cup of tea in the base. "Your time has left me with something else... this metal business! Now how do you suppose that happened? Something of you got left behind?"

"Could be, ma'am," Tin Soldier says, "I'm not rightly sure. But what I am sure about is a few ways we can make it work for you."

"I can't seem to hold on to the metal for very long," Bakal says. "Not that I'm complaining, I wouldn't like to be all metallic all the time like you. No offence intended..."

"None taken."

Cursed Legacy recruit Reflux, as well as Public Enemy on Clemency

Team Identities

The Watch become a Big Tent

House Edge become Self-Made

Protection Inc. become a Powerhouse

The Dandy Lads become Focused

Route Horizon become a Friendship Club.

Everyone gets positive traits to the team or other members (decidedly randomly):

Endless Highway gains traits "Trusts his team" and "Impressed with Reverso"
Longfire gains traits "Believes in Route Horizon" and "Crush on Ponche"
Swan Dive gains traits "Believes in Route Horizon" and "Respects Endless Highway"
Reverso gains trait "Loyal to Route Horizon" and "Respects Longfire"
Ponche gains trait "Friends with Longfire" and "Friends with Swan Dive"

There is one team member too many, so cohesion checks begin until someone leaves. In a randomised order (with a cumulative -1 after every cycle to avoid possible infinite snowball):

Reverso 5+6+(3)= 14 Reverso gains trait "Respects Endless Highway"
Endless Highway: 6+6+(4) = 14 Endless Highway gains trait "Friends with Longfire"
Ponche 4+4+(+2)=10 Ponche gains trait "Loves Route Horizon"
Longfire 5+5+(+) Gains trait "Friends with Reverso"
Swan Dive 5+6+(+) Gains trait "Friends with Reverso"

Reverso 1+5+(4-1)=9 Gains trait "Suspicious of Ponche"
Endless Highway: 1+4+(5-1)=9 Gain trait "Concerns about Ponche"
Ponche 1+6+(+3-1)=8 Gains trait "Unsure about Endless Highway"
Longfire 4+3+(3-1)=9 Gains trait "Dismissive of Swan Dive"
Swan Dive 6+2+(6-1)=13 Gains trait "Respects Longfire"

Reverso 1+2+(3-2)=4 Loses "Loyal to Route Horizon" and leaves the team

After a long post-mission session with vodka, professions of deep admiration are exchanged between the tight-knit group, but Reverso comes to the conclusion that this isn't the best environment for him and he'd rather seek pastures new. He's loyal... until he isn't. Most of the rest of the team are very sad to see him go, they all wanted him there!

MISSION PHASE 9

The Stoneface Gang of gunrunners, formerly of Stoney Island, have put a bounty on House Edge for killing their men and stealing their weapons. With Escher's power, the Legion of Wickedness have gone into the home renovation business.

Spoiler: Goods and Services (click to show/hide)

MISSIONS

It's quiet. Too quiet. The city is swarming with hitman, the brainwashed, escaped convicts and other nefarious agents... but no one is doing anything big. Teams wishing for encounters with villains will have to Patrol this turn.

1/12 neighbourhoods are overrun (Hermitage). After mission phase 10, if there are a majority of neighbourhoods overrun, or neighbourhoods where hero teams have cumulatively less than 5 reputation, then Crimson Plague will be considered to have won the city.
