RECRUITMENT REPORT 9The Watch hold a tryout. (4+2) Six heroes attend:
Black Box | ??? | [hidden], [hidden], [hidden] | -1
Chap Stick | Glue Generation | Polite, Carefree, Ostentatious | 1
Bitter Candy | Shrinking | Jaded, Practical, Authentic, Hates Nitrox, Distrusts Ectoboy | 1
Psyla LXI | Insta-reincarnation, Increasing Psychic Power | Cold, Resourceful, Determined | 7
Brutus | Permanent Power Absorption, Detachable Limbs, Magnetic Control, Radioactive Touch, X-Ray Vision | Cold, Analytical, Unfaithful, Self-Perfecting | 10
Lavateen | Lava Generation, Social Media Manipulation | Teenager, Popular, Good Looking, Inauthentic, Coward | 12
Black Box, Bitter Candy, Psyla LXI, and Brutus were considered most cohesive:
Name | Known Powers | Traits | Fame
Black Box | ??? | [hidden], [hidden], [hidden] | -1
Bitter Candy | Shrinking | Jaded, Practical, Authentic, Hates Nitrox, Distrusts Ectoboy | 1
Psyla LXI | Insta-reincarnation, Increasing Psychic Power | Cold, Resourceful, Determined | 7
Brutus | Permanent Power Absorption, Detachable Limbs, Magnetic Control, Radioactive Touch, X-Ray Vision | Cold, Analytical, Unfaithful, Self-Perfecting | 10
There was a whole load of new people added to the Watch roster. They tried for cohesion, but it was a hard pick when there were so many positions. Lavateen was outraged not to get the pic and the scandal blew up on social media, while Chap Stick took it in her stride and said she'll try harder next time.
Retry looked over the new candidates. The team had always been unusual, but this newest set of recruits took the biscuit.
First there was Black Box, dressed all in black, what was there to say about them? Nothing.
Next there was Bitter Candy, formerly of the Spider Knights and still wearing a swirl-patterned supersuit. Bitter as his name, but even his grudges are strictly professional.
Psyla LXI was an odd fish, wearing a long white robe, and a purple band around her forehead. She could do impressive things with her mind, finding others, sending thoughts, lifting objects... but she stood detached from the affray. Apparently she had died fifteen times before, each time appearing again as if nothing had happened, but with a slightly different appearance each time, and each time chipping away at her sense of self.
Finally, one of the most famous heroes in the tri-state area, Brutus. He wears a supersuit themed around a toga and laurel crown. He permanently absorbs the powers of the villains he faces, making him feared and hated them. He's been through a series of teams before, each ending in recrimination, but maybe this time will be different.
Protection Inc take on Zirconia with Clemency:
Name | Known Powers | Traits | Infamy | Fame | Motivation
Zirconia | Diamond-like Skin | Local Knowledge, Carefree, Manipulative | 3 | 0 | Money
Zirconia is covered head-to-toe in a shimmering diamond-like skin that is both obscuring and revealing at the same time. She doesn't bother with clothes.
"In a few years this will all be gentrified so it's good you're getting in early before the prices hike," Zirconia says, as she's given the tour of the Warren apartment. "So what do I have to do? Show up to some of your little 'fights'?" She does air quotes. "I can do that..."
House Edge choose Tin Soldier as the new leader. Their Team ethos is changed to:
Killing: We kill as a last resort
Civilians: Stopping the villain is the most important thing
Collateral Damage: We pay for any damages we make
House Edge recruit Bakal:
Name | Known Powers | Traits | Fame
Bakal | Metal absorption and repulsion | Old, Religious, Kind | 0
"So you're the man that was running around in these old bones," Bakal says to Tin Soldier.
"Guilty as charged, ma'am," Tin Soldier says. "I did a full regimen of stretches and I got that mole checked out."
"The less said about all that, the better," Bakal says, warming her old hands with a cup of tea in the base. "Your time has left me with something else... this metal business! Now how do you suppose that happened? Something of you got left behind?"
"Could be, ma'am," Tin Soldier says, "I'm not rightly sure. But what I am sure about is a few ways we can make it work for you."
"I can't seem to hold on to the metal for very long," Bakal says. "Not that I'm complaining, I wouldn't like to be all metallic all the time like you. No offence intended..."
"None taken."
Cursed Legacy recruit Reflux, as well as Public Enemy on Clemency
Team IdentitiesThe Watch become a Big Tent
House Edge become Self-Made
Protection Inc. become a Powerhouse
The Dandy Lads become Focused
Route Horizon become a Friendship Club.
Everyone gets positive traits to the team or other members (decidedly randomly):
Endless Highway gains traits "Trusts his team" and "Impressed with Reverso"
Longfire gains traits "Believes in Route Horizon" and "Crush on Ponche"
Swan Dive gains traits "Believes in Route Horizon" and "Respects Endless Highway"
Reverso gains trait "Loyal to Route Horizon" and "Respects Longfire"
Ponche gains trait "Friends with Longfire" and "Friends with Swan Dive"
There is one team member too many, so cohesion checks begin until someone leaves. In a randomised order (with a cumulative -1 after every cycle to avoid possible infinite snowball):
Reverso 5+6+(3)= 14 Reverso gains trait "Respects Endless Highway"
Endless Highway: 6+6+(4) = 14 Endless Highway gains trait "Friends with Longfire"
Ponche 4+4+(+2)=10 Ponche gains trait "Loves Route Horizon"
Longfire 5+5+(+) Gains trait "Friends with Reverso"
Swan Dive 5+6+(+) Gains trait "Friends with Reverso"
Reverso 1+5+(4-1)=9 Gains trait "Suspicious of Ponche"
Endless Highway: 1+4+(5-1)=9 Gain trait "Concerns about Ponche"
Ponche 1+6+(+3-1)=8 Gains trait "Unsure about Endless Highway"
Longfire 4+3+(3-1)=9 Gains trait "Dismissive of Swan Dive"
Swan Dive 6+2+(6-1)=13 Gains trait "Respects Longfire"
Reverso 1+2+(3-2)=4 Loses "Loyal to Route Horizon" and leaves the team
After a long post-mission session with vodka, professions of deep admiration are exchanged between the tight-knit group, but Reverso comes to the conclusion that this isn't the best environment for him and he'd rather seek pastures new. He's loyal... until he isn't. Most of the rest of the team are very sad to see him go, they all wanted him there!
MISSION PHASE 9The Stoneface Gang of gunrunners, formerly of Stoney Island, have put a bounty on House Edge for killing their men and stealing their weapons. With Escher's power, the Legion of Wickedness have gone into the home renovation business.
Legion's Expansion: -1 income, +1 base size and +1 team infamy for working with the Legion (this can be taken multiple times)
Liquidation: Remove "Wealthy" trait from a hero. Team gains +2 income levels, and hero gains trait "Bankrolling [team]".
Repayment: Remove "Bankrolling [team]" and decrease income by 3 income levels, and hero gains trait "Wealthy"
Chiffon's Bakery: -1 income level to get a bakery subscription (end at any time): once per mission phase assign a pastry to a hero with your action and they will have +1 random power for that mission.
Bounty: Hand in (dead or alive) any of House Edge (except for PB, for obvious reasons), for +2 income
Armor Suit: -1 income level, and a hero of your choice gains the trait "Bulletproof Armor"
Mirror Suit: -1 income level, a hero of your choice gains the trait "Laser-Proof Armor"
Chamo Suit: -1 income level, a hero of your choice gains the trait "Stealth-Tech"
Hazmat Suit: -1 income level, a hero of your choice gains trait "Hazmat".
Supercar: -2 income level, gain asset "Supercar". Arrive at the scene as quick as your rivals who are a neighbourhood closer!
MISSIONSIt's quiet. Too quiet. The city is swarming with hitman, the brainwashed, escaped convicts and other nefarious agents... but no one is doing anything big. Teams wishing for encounters with villains will have to Patrol this turn.
1/12 neighbourhoods are overrun (Hermitage). After mission phase 10, if there are a majority of neighbourhoods overrun, or neighbourhoods where hero teams have cumulatively less than 5 reputation, then Crimson Plague will be considered to have won the city.
[First Come]: Whichever team gets there first will resolve the mission, others don't get a look-in
[Time Sensitive]: Teams which get there first get the first attempt and might resolve things before the other teams arrive
[Heroes: X]: Only the first X heroes to arrive will be able to do this mission.
[X Limit]: Only heroes who meet Y limitation will be able to go (e.g. fame, size, power-type, trait)
[Deadly]: All but the toughest or hardest to harm heroes risk injury, and possible death.
[Harrowing]: The cohesion of teams will be pushed to its limit.
[Recurring]: This mission will keep appearing until someone succeeds, though there may be consequences for not attending to it, and the difficulty may escalate with failed attempts.
[Mutually Exclusive]: Twinned missions, where one team cannot send someone on both sides.
[High Profile]: Guaranteed individual fame for all attendees.
