Double down on the parasitic tendrils mutation and try to make them more efficient, durable, just better overall. 

Mutation 2: Start producing large quantities of bioelectricity that is expelled through the tendrils once they are attached to another species to prevent them from running away and added damage.

The World

The subocean volcano which forms the seamount has several, minor, consequent eruptions, which has distrupted algea growth all across Guguli Shallows.

The herbivores were hit first, then predators, parasites and filterfeeders.

And no, the jellyfish Cownut are not benthic. They have no method of controlling where they go, and thats why they are doing so bad.

Species-wide mutation: Floating Sludgiballoon passes on it's improved reproduction method to it's kin, allowing gene sharing. In this case, improved electroreceptors for all! SS roll.

Antennaed Sludgiboo Speciation: A variant that derives nutrients from sand, soil, and dead things it digests. Not a predator, though will break down anything that doesn't move or have electricity. Has a very nutritious body due to storing nutrients in it's slime. Gritty texture though.

Is parasitism predetorism? (We got hit pretty hard, parasites' less so. Well, time for a foodie evolution.)

The period of volcanic eruptions which had previously caused a mass dying has come to an end, instead giving way for a period of environmental mediocrity that allowed the seamount ecosystem to revover.
