I guess the other neat thing about the Platoon game is that players are updating the game state themselves. So necessarily the rules can't be too complex, otherwise people would make regular mistakes in action processing. I think Platoon does a pretty good job of this, while there's quite a lot of mechanics, the explanation is at least clear.

One thing though— I get the intention of allowing beacons to give some catch up for missing turns, but you can only get beacons if you have two armories: that is to say, if you have managed to take about two weeks worth of turns. By that point, the players who would most benefit from having them are the least likely to have got them, no?

I take that as a compliment to me, aswell as Quarque.

I agree, actually the most recent update from a few hours ago changed that.

I was pretty vocal about how it wasn't working for me.

It wasn't the rate, it was the deadlines.

We've run a slow game for the better part of a week.
I guess we don't have the same expectations when it comes to games, I'm good with games taking a long time.

The daily deadlines bothered me. Just the deadlines.

It changed the game from a little present I was handed every time someone took a turn, to a sense of dread of getting left behind.

For me, III restores that enthusiasm. While making efforts to keep what people wanted in II and liked. What do you think, did it succeed in that aspect?

Missing a turn at this stage of the game isn't that big a deal, so there's no need to dread the turn timer.

I'm a builder, never could exist properly in the world of schedules, hard dates, etc.

I actually had a perfect attendance record in elementary, which I was extremely proud of. Not that it was any effort on my part, my parents dropped me off.

One day I visited the neighbor girl and we made mud pies in her backyard. When my dad found me, I was already 2 hours late for school.

I always miss deadlines, and when I try to schedule them I am just stressed all the time. I don't like it. I don't want to play that way.

If I were you I’d take this more as an opinion on the direction things are going and not an outright compliment. You’re doing a lot that complicates the game and works directly against what nqt thinks is neat. It’s doubly something I’d be more cautious about in your shoes since the constant changing of rules and mechanics multiple times a turn works to severely complicate things. See a game through to its conclusion and make an adjustment or two if absolutely necessary. Keep a log of deeper changes you want to make and don’t just fire them out there on a whim. I’m just an observer and even I’m starting to lose track of things, and it feels like you’re starting to miss the forest for the trees.

I know you think you're dropping profound wisdom on me - and you know what, you are. Only it's the stuff I already tell myself. Sometimes we go into the forest on purpose.

Better to hash out the big stuff early on, and it's all stuff this game was meant to test. I ask these players to help me test a new pacing system in PM. There's a lot of additional communication, agreements, and understandings that are made in PMs, that may leave what's public confusing as to why people go along with the wacky antics I get up to. I also just attract good people.

One of your players telling me they’re glad I said something says you might need to improve that communication a bit.

Anyway, I don't really have anything big to add, everything that was recently added was ... heavily ... meditated upon.

Nobody is playing games here? I’m not gonna throw anyone under the bus since you seem to take any sort of criticism as a direct and personal attack, but one of your like four players voiced that they were glad your constant updating and changing of rules midgame was brought up as it had a negative impact for them. I’m just pointing out that if you’re communicating with your players about these things like you say you are that perhaps you might want to do so more clearly.

Also you were definitely “playing those games” like a month ago.

I think broken people are the ones that most need games, to play them and to tell them.

I'd appreciate you giving me space MoP.
