The Vaux and Leander Manufacturing’s VL M18 (not to be confused with the ’18 or the G18 or the other M18) is a ten-round straight-pull bolt action rifle for standard infantry use.  In order to fit a ten round internal magazine, it extends vertically through the bottom of the rifle next to the trigger guard.  The magazine is prone to mis-alignment, resulting in an internal jam if dropped or jostled.

The M18 uses a straight-pull action.  This means the user does not need to lift the bolt or lock it back down, simplifying the action and increasing firing speed.  The M18’s straight pull action does leave a little to be desired, however – the user must be certain the action is all the way forward before firing or the rifle may experience an out-of-battery fire.  In this case, the rifle can be damaged or even wound the user, and the stiff nature of the M18’s bolt makes it difficult to be certain it’s fully forward without visually checking.  The accuracy of the M18 is sub-par, though the reason is as-of-yet unclear.  Though it won’t be winning any sharp-shooting awards, the VL M18 can reliably hit a man-sized target at up to 300m or so.  The rifle can be field stripped with some difficulty, as the straight-pull bolt is reluctant to leave its housing and testers often resort to using leverage to pull it free.

Noting the issues with disconnector the pistol trigger group was overhauled. The sear now has a tail that sticks up when the sear is lowered. As the barrel moves forward it trips this tail and disconnects the trigger from the sear. Do to this change the sear is now a single larger piece both increasing it's strength and reducing the amount of foul that can enter the trigger group. A new flat spring now powers the sear further improving it's durability and the stronger force of this spring lets it better handle fouling. This combined should correct the issue with multiple round sometimes firing on a single trigger pull. As an extremely simple minute change a safety sear is cut into the barrel this catches the barrel in the event the user pull the tab just forward enough to pick up and fire a round, without going far enough to engage the proper sear.(yes it's unrelated to the trigger but it's a single cut.)

The Exemplar is a blow-forward handgun with an eight-round 7.5x20mm detachable magazine.  The weapon’s barrel slides forward after firing to eject the spent brass before scooping a fresh round out of the magazine.  The tab on the back of the barrel pulls triple duty as both sights, cocking handle, and a forward stop for the barrel’s recoil.

The shroud covering the barrel helps to keep moving parts from catching on debris, but tends to redirect fouling from the brass ejection back into the slide.  The trigger disconnector can break or become faulty (especially if enough fouling is present) and multiple rounds can fire with one trigger pull - or even a catastrophic mag-dump could occur.  The locking pin for the shroud can come lose or be broken during use, and in one particular case the shroud was propelled off the gun by the recoil spring when broken.  The curved handle within which the magazine sits has very little wiggle room, and a sufficiently dirty weapon will see it stick in place.

The blow-forward design increases perceived recoil, which makes rapid fire difficult.  The barrel also has a tendency to “float” if tolerances are poor or the mechanisms become worn - which isn’t a terrible issue as the weapon isn’t meant for sniping to begin with, but is something to consider.  Testers report the trigger pull is nice and easy, but there’s a significant chance of an accidental discharge when attempting to cock the barrel with a round already chambered.

GM NOTE:  Creating a revision of a design does not create a "new separate gun" - you can not sell the ownership of a revision while maintaining ownership of the original.  Only one person can own the "Autokiller Mk1" and the "Autokiller Mk2", for example.

Some revisions may be slightly too complex for one action, and as a result is only partially carried out.  However, a "Failed Revision" is one which is reaches well beyond the scope of a single change, or is a change which is so complex it requires a new design.  The $15 cost for a revision will be returned, minus an initial $1 fee.  This fee will increase with each Failed Revision, and repeated failures may eventually bankrupt the company.

Prohibition begins in the United States and alcohol is now a banned substance.   Adolf Hitler presents his National Socialist Program in Munich to the German Workers' Party, which renames itself as the Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei (referred to as "Nazi" by their detractors).  The Syrian National Congress proclaims Syria independent, with Faisal I of Iraq as king.  Polish troops push the Russians out of Kyiv once and for all, and Russia will never again threaten the Ukrainian People's Republic.   The Soviets then recognize the independence of the Democratic Republic of Georgia, only to invade the country six months later (this is most likely just a one-time thing, and not indicative of Russian behavior as a whole).

Ursus Brachi
Rifle Design: 'Halflight' Lance Projector
Ammunition: 1 caliber x 270 grains, 17' overall length, ~3lbs overall weight (Internal Designation: Cete Pernicies-270, or CP-270)

The Halflight is the embodiment of an individuals gut reaction and instincts overtaking their better judgement and decision-making processes.

It is a shoulder-fired break-action rifle with a one-inch bore firing impact-fuse ammunition.  Testers describe the use of the weapon akin to being struck by lightning - there's an enormous flash and boom, and you may very well find yourself on your back in serious pain.  The rounds exit the barrel with roughly the same force and speed as a run-away freight train...that is to say, not very fast, but very deadly.  The impact fuse relies on the French technology for direct-impact detonation.  A steel hammer on the end of a spindle protrudes from the end of the round and only detonates when hitting a target flat and square; deflections or deaccelerations do not result in detonation.  Moisture or high humidity results in the CP-270 ammunition fuses going bad and reaching prohibitively high rates of failure-to-detonate.  On the other hand, if the round manages to actually hit its target, detonation tends to be a bit over-kill.

The barrel is without rifling and as a result (not to understate things here) the Halflight can be "less-than-accurate".  Luckily, the ball-bearing and explosive composition makes near-misses an acceptable outcome, if the fuse doesn't fail.  The sheer concussive force of firing has been known to stress and weaken the hinge. Although our testers stopped before such a failure could occur, the Halflight's break-action will inevitably fail after a dozen or so rounds have passed through it.  Additionally, there is no extractor for the enormous brass casing, and the brass tends to tightly form-fit the internals and become hard to remove.  An "extractor rod" is provided with the weapon: a broom handle, with which the user can poke the spent round back out.  The Halflight does not come with sights, and the user must simply aim down the barrel's length.

What?  Okay, look, this was a funny joke, but we're actually quite busy down here.  Come back when you've got something for me to look at.  In other words: NOPE."

The NOPE Smasher M19B is a conversion of the double-action firing mechanism to a "triple-action".  Currently the trigger pulls the hammer back until the action trips and releases the catch, causing the hammer to fall and fire the round.  An additional catch is added, allowing the trigger to be held in the ready position after being cocked manually.  This reduces the weight of the pull on the trigger.  In other words, the weapon can fire in either single-action or double-action.  The additional machining and mechanisms result in a very minor price increase.

The sights of the NOPE M18 Repeater are moved from along the heatshield to the bayonet mount and behind the ejection port.  They are slightly elevated to poke above the heatshield and use barleycorn sights.  The gun becomes more accurate to aim as a result.

Dividing portions of the frame into sub-assemblies held together with screws (rather than rivets) allows infantrymen to more easily access the internals for field maintenance.  This move is loudly applauded by one tester who previously worked as an armorer.  It's still not the easiest weapon to clean, but infantrymen no longer have any excuse to pass the buck to their armories.

Rifle: VL M18
Gunsmith engineers adjust tolerances on the straight-pull bolt of the M18 (no, the other M18).  The bolt slides much more smoothly now and it's obvious once it reaches all the way forward - though it is still possible to fire out-of-battery if the bolt isn't seated all the way forward for some reason.  The bolt can be removed without the use of leverage now, assuming the user knows what they're doing.

Revision: Exemplar Semi-Auto Pistol*
The Exemplar Pistol-star features a modified sear to protect as an additional safety against multiple-round fire.  The tail on the sear securely disconnects the trigger when the barrel is moved forward, requiring it to be reset by releasing the trigger.  The addition of a simple notch in the barrel will catch the barrel on the sear as an additional safety measure against misusing the tab.

The barrel is cut shorter, down to 45cm.  The resulting flash is much more noticeable now.  There's some trepidation as to whether the shorter barrel will negatively affect the long-stroke gas piston, but there doesn't seem to be any ill effects.  The rifle is noticeably less accurate now, and the effective range has been diminished.

Imperiosa is a child of one of the dissolved countries on the losing side of the Great War.  They’ve emerged relatively unscathed from the conflict, but the rather grueling peace treaty forbids them from weapon production and arms stockpiling.  This makes it difficult to, say, arm their police or other peace-keeping officials.  They’re looking for a semi-automatic rifle with which to supply their non-military forces, in order to maintain peace and protect their people.  The semi-auto rifle should be accurate with at least a 5+1 magazine, and the standard infantryman should be capable of field-stripping the weapon under combat conditions and in muddy trenches.  That’s not to say it will be used in such circumstances; it's just a nice thing to have, of course.

Regardless of what they meant by the metaphors, the pistol submitted must be easy to aim and shoot.  As it will be a tool of their peace-keeping forces, the more iconic the profile, the better.

Despite the rather…unorthodox name, the A1 is a relatively standard large-caliber water-cooled machine gun.  None of the users would describe the box-and-cylinder shape as “elegant”, but it would not be out of place in the trenches of the Great War.  Recoil and muzzle flash are enormous as it fires 15mm rounds, which could place the A1 vaguely in the realm of “autocannon”.  The built-on water tanks and cooling system are absolutely required for use as the gun will quickly seize without them, or worse – begin to cook off.

If one word could be used to describe this weapon, it would be “heavy”.  It’s largely immobile due to the cooling system and size, and can not be used in places where fresh water is not largely available.  Thermal buildup requires lots of water to be cycled through during use.  Impure water (such as sea water or hard water) can cause blockages that take extensive periods of maintenance to clean out of the copper piping.  Accuracy is an afterthought, with most rounds landing “vaguely in the vicinity” of the target.  Range is impressive however, though with recoil, flash, and accuracy trying to hit anything that far is a distant dream.  Maintenance and cleaning is a chore, and many parts can become jammed as the gun cools and fouling works its way inside.  Testers describe the weapon as “vehemently unfriendly” to operate in nearly all aspects, though the stopping power is incredible to see in action.  The A1 is definitely a weapon you’d prefer to see as a bystander, rather than from either end.

Although our testers stopped before such a failure could occur, the Halflight's break-action will inevitably fail after a dozen or so rounds have passed through it.  Additionally, there is no extractor for the enormous brass casing, and the brass tends to tightly form-fit the internals and become hard to remove.  An "extractor rod" is provided with the weapon: a broom handle, with which the user can poke the spent round back out.  The Halflight does not come with sights, and the user must simply aim down the barrel's length.

Rohnmohal G18
The Rohnmohal G18 (not to be confused with the M18 or ’18) is a semi-automatic rifle with a free-floating barrel and a ten-round internal magazine of 6.5x48mm ammunition.  The G18 utilizes a long-stroke piston; though robust, it does make the gun heavier and increase perceived recoil.  The barrel and piston float above a wooden stock, which makes testers nervous despite assurances its to increase accuracy.  This float decreases the effect of humidity on the weapon’s accuracy, but the smaller ammunition and powder load gives it decreased range and accuracy over most existing bolt-action rifles despite the addition of aperture sights.  It’s also not uncommon for the user to bump the barrel with their fingers and be burned.

The ten-round magazine sticks out the bottom of the gun and is fed by two 5-round stripper clips, though keeping the magazine at max capacity will quickly wear out the magazine spring and result in failure to feed.  The “large” magazine size and semi-auto fire makes the weapon enjoyable to shoot, at least, and the smaller caliber helps offset the recoil of the long-stroke piston.  In fact, were the barrel shorter it might be ideal for closer-range combat than the long-range it’d been designed for.  Although some thought has been given to field-stripping, the G18 still requires dedicated tools to access the internal mechanisms.  The process of loading, aiming, and maintaining the rifle requires a non-negligible amount of training.

The ten-round magazine is modified to use a stiffer rectangular spring and additional guides are added to the follower to keep it in line with the walls around it.

The barrel is cut shorter, down to 45cm.  The resulting flash is much more noticeable now.  There's some trepidation as to whether the shorter barrel will negatively affect the long-stroke gas piston, but there doesn't seem to be any ill effects.  The rifle is noticeably less accurate now, and the effective range has been diminished.
