Open that plastic cover and pull the lever.

You open the cover and pull the lever.  A hatch opens, revealing a snug room for a human.  It's spacious for you, consisting of a long bench on the far wall, with a drawer beneath it, a big box on the side marked 'medical', another big box marked 'ration kit C', and a small console.  There's another lever that's labelled "Arming Lever."  The floor is metal under a rubber-like pad, and the ceiling has one simple button-operated light.

Before we seal ourselves in here I say we look in that drawer under the bench, might have something useful.

Bedding!  Smells edible.  There's a human sized bag with velcro attachment points, and mates for them on the wall behind the shelf.

There's also a strange box with a lot of funny plastic tubes and various attachments on it, with some sort of liquid spigot on the bottom.

Thirdly, you see three gas tanks.  One's labelled 'O2', one's labelled 'N2' and a little one's labelled 'Ne'

Having pulled the drawer out, you see there are matching hookups to take in liquid and gas at the back of the drawer.  You have hoses and regulators for them, too.

All that stuff sounds important probably shouldn't mess with it for now, instead lets go over an look at that console and see what it wants.

It's a touchscreen!  You peck away at it.

There's three menus.. Status, Systems, and Library.

Status just says "Life support functional, oxygen at 97%, water at 98%, Battery Nominal, and then a readout of the local atmosphere, which is apparently 72% Nitrogen, 8% Neon, 20% Oxygen, and 223 PPM Carbon Dioxide.

Systems has a bunch of buttons for turning stuff on and off, and a bunch of stuff about solar panels and distress beacon and such.  It all says 'disabled while not armed or launched.'  There is a Test Mode button but it wants a passcode.

Library seems to have a bunch of entertainment options, and a thing saying 'Connect to Portable Devices.'  When you push that, nothing happens.  Otherwise it's a bunch of big menus called movies and music and literature.. lots and lots of stuff.

All that sounds like it might help us learn English the rest of the way.

We should poke our head outside the pod and see if we can see what's happening out there, then maybe shut the door in case the hall looses pressure.

Things seem a bit quiet outside.  There's still the alarm going off, but the passage looks safe.

..Do you really want to lock yourself into a fairly small room like that?

Well it seems like we still have some time to explore, so let's look into the other doors in the hall and see if any have any stuff for us to eat or loot.

You're on deck 8, and there's the big ladders heading up and down in the middle.

Forwards is the Topside Crew Mess, with another hatch further forward.  Further Aft is four rooms on both sides with yellow hatch doors and simple numeric labels.. and another hatch further aft.  One of the doors is yellow or green.

Further Outside is a proper hatch, this time called "Portside Armoury".  It wants a black keycard or a red keycard, and it says "Push button to request access" below a camera.  Hmm.  The door is a proper hatchway, but it isn't as serious as the Animal Lab door.

Inside is a straight hallway leading a good twenty meters across the ship, ending in a nearly identical hatch that presumably opens onto the starboard side.  There's a couple of unlocked hatches leading forwards with simple labels on them, and a bigger one leading aft labelled "Deck 8 Rec Room."

That Crew Mess place sounds exciting we should go there.

Which keycards do we have again?
