You only need High Tech once you get to fusion. 1MT is still fission. The main issues are scarcity of ammo and the additional sunk research cost to deploy them. They're also slower, heavier, and more fragile than any other artillery options, with range more akin to rockets than missiles. They may be stronger than other artillery, but they're a lot fussier.

Panzerstein has rail connecting three cities, but no train station. Unless I blew it up 10 turns ago, which I don't think I did...

Is one the capital, and the other two adjacent to it? I've seen that kind of nonsense on generated starting cities before. My personal favorite is still a train station plus rail to the capital's furthest asset... but one less starting zone than there was supposed to be, and no truck station anywhere.

I think I started this game with a rail station and rail heads, but no rail.

Yeah, a goofy starting position that was never developed further. Dunno why the AI loves to spam lvl 1 airfields everywhere but won't build up urban industry (that I could steal)

My experience is that the only assets majors consistently build outside their capitals are airbases, truck stations, food production, and sometimes biofuel. Mostly just the first two.

New beta looks like it'll actually have some impact - spy reports and retention calculation got reworked so they'll be less insanely good and more prone to capture when they're very plentiful. That should take effect even in our ongoing game.

That's closed beta, right? I'm not seeing any new patches.

Sorry for the (continuing) delays. I'll have the turn ready tomorrow.

Oops, yeah, closed beta is currently running 2 subversions ahead of open beta, so we're back to that. I think what confused me is that all the stuff mentioned above was based on open-beta bug reports.

Subversion q is also currently crashing, but AFAIK only on new games - my subversion-p2-generated SP game has been able to continue fine. So the only question will be whether the new core-game fixes I alluded to above will affect me, Karlito, or no one - I'm not 100% sure when different parts of the turn are getting processed, but it seems like I process a hefty bit after hitting end turn and before saving it to pass along. So that'll be, uh, interesting.

Take your time getting the turn done. I'm fine with the current pace even if we're still nowhere near a resolution for the game, and am taking forever doing my own turns.

Yeah, this was too much for me to get sorted out in a day.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
That's four brigades worth of infantry. Several contiguous hexes of a defensive line completely evaporated.
Radiation has reached colours never seen before. Which I suppose is all that 'holds' the line now.

This is my war room this turn:

Translation unnecessary.

Come on, Karlito. I need your cannon fodder to eat at least a few of those nukes.

FWIW, I have an entire zone and a half to my east that looks like this cluster of hexes, though in fairness I think it peaks at 1700 rads vs. the 1800 here. I'm pretty sure it's the most angry red hexes I've ever seen together in SE, though. Definitely top three. Doesn't bother all the xenos living there, ofc.

Jesus, this is a pain. Like, I can't figure out what to do. What do you do, when you can't form a defensive line any more?

Contract your front further back so it covers less ground, and/or stretch your line thinner over the same amount of ground.

You've done a good job of keeping at least two units on your entire line this war, but there's been places where I've had little choice but to rely on single units fairly frequently, and that's probably been why you managed to push salients through my lines a few times at great cost to me. As long as they're fairly defensively-strong units in defensive postures on defensible terrain, it's a reasonable gamble. If you can't be sure you can put them in that sort of a position, though, contracting your lines is likely safer.

In a pinch, you can have a thin portion fall back so the enemy immediately bring as much force to bear on your lines b/c they need to advance to engage them. It's not ideal, but it's better than standing firm and getting enveloped if that's the other option. It's something I've had to do several times in several places this game, especially since when we started fighting I had an unpleasant percentage of militia troops on the line. Basically, buy time until you can reinforce, and plunder a city for recruits so you can reinforce. Just, uh, make sure you don't do that somewhere that doesn't have the logistics to ship them out immediately. Last game I drafted 34k recruits in a single turn when things were starting to get desperate, but did it somewhere with swamped logistics so I was never able to ship more than 3-4k per turn to my SHQ. I think there were still 5-10k recruits waiting to muster in that city when the game ended...

hey, man. I had fairly strong units in defensible terrain with proper postures. Now there's only radiation where their trenches used to be.
I can't possibly keep taking 20k losses each turn, and there's very little I can think of to avert that.

(this isn't defeatism, btw. I'm eager to continue, just am genuinely stumped right now. Like, I'm trying to figure out if there is any other way than stall for 20 turns or so, until I have my own nukes)
