There's a couple of reasons these airbridges aren't doing as good as that one. Most of them seem unlikely to change from my end.

Since you didn't make a breakthrough on the northern front, but seemed to enjoy trying, I'll reinforce the units there so you can have another go. To encourage you to break through sooner rather than later, I'll also go ahead and bring some of the out-of-compliance troops up to current operational standards.

That's acceptable.
The only reason my man Astro failed to push through was a dearth of action points. Both times you had like 10% operational troops left to my 80ish. A few squishy nookularists won't alter his resolve.

The trade-off with making them squishier is that I could then afford to make the old ones entirely obsolete. Would it have been preferable for them to be ¡927 instead of ¡653? Certainly, for the 2/3s of them who were that instead of ¡563 w/weapons little better than my laser machineguns. Battledress would have increased their machine cost from 2 to 3, and when you're looking to upgrade 11k troops on top of doing all the rest of your reinforcing, an extra machine sadly still makes a difference.

(Although if I'd've remembered to scuttle my econ discovery research earlier than I did when I realized I was down to Atmospheric Membranes and nothing else, and thus gotten Industrial Robotization at least one turn earlier, this machine-pinching behavior would not have been necessary. Small oversights have large consequences, and there's so many oversights possible in this game.)

[Arrrgh, I just realized Mk. III is NOT out of service yet, as there's still 4 Analysis Teams operating out of my other logistical department against Hornstein, and it's not practical to upgrade them yet. I'm denied the sweet satisfaction of marking the model obsolete and vanishing them into the militia arsenal...]

Huh the cross-fertilization cost was a bug and got fixed in the latest patch (for new games only)

And the lesson of "never take things for granted" is reinforced once again.  :-\

*sigh* Time to start over in SP, again...

Bah, of all the ways to lose my air commander, a probably-unnecessary pre-nuke recon flight is a sorry way to go - especially since I'd invested in bodyguards to keep accidents like that from happening. I guess we avenged her later when we utterly failed to scratch some missile artillery but shot down the heavy fighter squad protecting them, but that still stings; she'd been with us since turn 1. I suppose this is round #2978 of "don't bring a biplane with machineguns to an air-to-air missile fight"...

[Come to think of it, since I'm only assuming the 20 or so interceptors were what killed her, the revenge might have been nuking the exposed AA battery out of existence. But I still suspect it was the fighters what done her in.]

Was she at least any good? My air commanders - average as they were out of the box - seem oddly uninterested in developing any air skills other than air intercept. And that in spite of flying some two dozen bombing missions in one case (well, ok, it's probably exaggerated in my memory. But at least a dozen.)

She was fairly decent. Admittedly, she'd spent around 92 turns honing her martial skills, with about 75 of those spent leading my Econ Council. I'll pull up how she looked at the start of the turn...

Spoiler: An ex-AHQ CDR (click to show/hide)

Honestly, I probably should have given her an infantry command, but no, I thought this would be safer for her...

So, uh. I've just discovered tactical nukes. What do I do with those? There doesn't seem to be any new weapons to put on any model that I can see.
Tell me it does something and is not just a requirement for nuclear bazookas.

It does something. But you're gonna need a bigger boat tank.

She actually kinda sucks as an air marshal. She's only really good at Ground Attack.  Female Goring much?

Spoiler: Oh, come ooon! (click to show/hide)

Hey, wait. Are walkers classified as infantry? They don't seem to be getting any attack bonuses from fluid defence.

(just a heads-up: this might take a while; not sure if I finish tonight)

Well, one of my own commanders I've just given personal guard to died in first round of combat. Heavy losses ensued.

They're neither Mechanized nor Infantry. They don't benefit from any type-specific Postures, just their inherent anti-tank bonuses.

Also: ouch. And take your time. My turns take forever. So much fussing.

Yeah no stratagems or OOBs for walkers, which does limit their usefulness.
