Turn went directly to Whitecaste this time, so I guess it did just need an extra turn to process. Also, I have a zone producing free water for the first time. Grognard troops complain incessantly about the water falling from the sky.

Yeah, there was a message in the Letterbox tab of Reports stating that SoD were eliminated. Their regime still has an entry in the victory report, but I assume the AI and/or entropy will change that soon enough.

I wonder what happens when Alien Natives take over a city of 200,000 humans. . . it can't be pretty

They had YEARS to accept the buyout and relocate. It's their own fault that once our two gov'ts finally finished reading and initialing the exclusive zoning regulations and strictly licensed travel access and border crossing agreements, they could no longer visit their "friends" and "relatives" and "medical facilities" in the rest of Sotenar. Rules are rules!

[Whelp. Spotted at least two things I forgot to do the second time I did last turn. Hopefully it's not going to cost me fulfilling a demand, but I think it might...]

Yeesh, really screwed up my logistics and had to scramble to fix them this turn. Always fun how quickly and how badly things go wrong when they do.

Also, finally got vision on both of you. Really squished up against each other huh?

But did you see the padding between us, made of wildlife and tears of burghers?

Q: What's the deal with weapon/armour/engine design sometimes being upgraded with new models, and sometimes not? I can't figure out what's that dependent on. If anything, and is not just a completely random roll, that is.

I believe there's a roll based on the structure design and the model design (which is modified for field testing), and if it's higher than the existing quality it will be used instead. You're likely to get improvements in the first few iterations, especially if field testing is improving your base design score, but it will become less likely with later generations as the scores raise. The manual says

Quote
The Structural Design Score and Basic Design Score impacts the Engine
Design, Weapon Design and Armor Design Stats. These are also randomized
with the first version of a New Model, but they’ll (probably) improve with
each new version of of the Model (irrespective of Field Testing).
And if you look at some of the model design logs you can kind of see this happening.

HA! You're all doomed! My Applied Research council has discovered Atomic Weapons Optimization, so just as soon as I figure out how to weaponize the nuke plants I don't have any radioactives for, you'll be done for!

After a mere 15-20 turns of wondering (plus designing and deploying a range-25 recon plane), I finally got eyes on the apparently-extremely-localized things that casually ate ~70% of one of my units in like a round of combat. Behold the Sturnira; quantity does indeed have its own quality. It looks like White Castle may have harvested part of that herd b/c it's all the way down to 11k in the stack.

Nah, it's 15k as per my intel. Honestly, I don't remember if I fought them. If so, they did not make as terrible an impression on my burghers.
Your troops are shite, is what I'm saying.

That actually makes sense, since those same pilots were also reporting your units next door were in 1400 & 1600 troop battalions. Sounds like it might be time to do some "random" drug testing and launch an investigation into why those particular pilots were so eager to volunteer to fly a mission that just happened to be to the border of White Castle...

Nah, it's 15k as per my intel.

FWIW, my intel is now putting them at 20k. Which makes sense since they're social and it's been more than a few turns since 15k ganked my unit.

[Okay, I can tell you the precise figure is now 13k following my very-clever decision to go ahead and attack them since I had 6-1 odds. I'm lucky I only had light casualties since I forgot the units doing so were in a defensive posture. It's been a while since I attacked blobs that big - good odds don't mean you'll win, just that you won't get massacred. Can't rout them if you only ever hit 10-20% of them...]

Can't rout what you don't attack.  Sometimes you just gotta go dig stuff out of their defensive holes...

If anyone is alarmed by my sudden increase in population this turn, you probably shouldn't be; I'm currently reaping what my tendency to vassalize zones far outside the actual range of my logistics network has sown. I'll only be able to keep this if the zone's militia can somehow fight off a major w/o meaningful outside support...
