Did somebody forget to send the turn, or are we pausing for while?

To the best of my knowledge, the turn is with Karlito, and I'm guessing RL is making a nuisance of itself. I've second-guessed myself and double-checked sent-and-recieved timestamps at least twice in the last two days, but it's showing that I sent out a turn ~3h after I got my last one from you.

Do you guys have any sort of feel for the 'research bonus points'? Like, I've no idea how much of a boon is it to claim a site that gives those, to build a university, to play the scientific outpost feat card, etc.

Oh, and those profile perks - are they cumulative? Or does the best bonus overwrite the previous ones?

Your actual % bonus is always the sqrt of the bonus points you have, so it can be worthwhile to claim them early on, but there's a diminishing return as you accumulate more.

Profile Perks are cumulative, and note that they give you a direct % boost directly rather than bonus points, which makes them very powerful.

There's a report called Feats and Bonus Overview which might help you take this all in.

Yeah, I've read that report. Still can't wrap my head around it.

Research in particular has sharply diminishing returns b/c they give you a percentage bonus equal to the square root of points you have. Last game I didn't get any Mind profile bonuses for a long time (not for lack of trying) but still managed to be competitive with research, but I had to spend 18 or 21 Fate Points on zone research bonuses to get that. By the time we were fighting I'd stopped playing those stratagems even though the game kept giving me more  - 6 of those cards is ~34%, but 7 is only ~37%, etc.

Also note that the report claims to be real time, but assets don't produce research, etc. points until the start of the turn, so you won't see things change until the turn after something takes effect.

Some reports do update certain numbers as you change them during the turn, which can be confusing.

So, EA, you think a 35-ish % bonus is worth 18 FPs? I don't think I'd spend that much unless positively swimming in FPs.

Also, the report says i have 81% bonus research. I don't know where that's coming from, as I don't have that much from profile feats.

I'm guessing +70% from mind and +11% from ~121 research bonus points

Ah. Alright, I'm having a Eureka moment. Maybe I'll figure it out yet.

Given what my alternatives to spend fate points on that game were, yes. Given how I got those fate points, no. I played a rebellion that set back my growth from 3 zones to 6 zones by ~10 turns, which was decisive when our armies clashed.

The thing with those is that early on, they're great. The first one you play is ~14% if you have no other RP income. The issue is deciding when diminishing returns have set in. The other factor is whether or not you can get Mind profile bonuses. I wanna say I didn't succeed in getting the first level of Mind (+30%) until around turn 50 last game, so I was more than a little desperate to have a research edge given how rapidly your economy was expanding.

Re: your research bonus, 70% of that is from Profile feats. Your universities are providing a little over 6% more from 40RP. You're getting another 80RP from somewhere, though. I don't see any private research lab assets (which are +50PR/level, IIRC) nor are your zones showing a Crashed Spaceship asset, but I'm guessing it's that latter item - +100 would put you at 140RP, which is just barely under the 144 you'd need for +12% to take you to 82% overall.

Maybe it's the private assets? Schools and the like.

Or one of the cults, though you'd probably be getting more if you had that one.

Schools just give QOL Education. Even private unis only give QOL Ed. The only private asset that gives RP that I know of is labs, and those usually come from your corp unless you make one with scrap cards. Cults seem more likely, yeah, though I don't remember one that gives RP.

If it's an unpopular cult, I could see 80-100 RP. My tertiary cult is giving me +45 Private Bonus.
