What's Yours Is Mine - Black Hole Buccaneers - Turn 1 Revision
« on: September 11, 2022, 11:35:32 pm »

The Buccaneers have finally split from those treacherous Reavers. You must rebuild and strengthen your band of pirates and outwit, outplay, and outlast your rivals.

Where did your faction set up their base of operations and install the Laneripper?

A: An abandoned space station in orbit around the local star. The hydroponics module was largely left intact, allowing your band to sustain themselves a little better. The faction produces 1 Food for use each turn. The food from this bonus will not be stockpiled, and will be used before stockpiled food.

B: On a (barely) habitable planet. The environment is harsh, dense jungle covering what little of the planet isn't covered by salt water, but the vast amount of minerals just under the surface of the land and sea are readily available for fabrication. The faction produces 1 Materials for use each turn. The material from this bonus will not be stockpiled, and will be used before stockpiled material.

C: From the bridge of the light cruiser your faction managed to steal away with after the Sons collapsed. The light cruiser (to be named by you if you choose this option) is armed with a spinal 210mm coilgun, twelve torpedo tubes (six fore, two each port, starboard, and aft), and a single fore Point Defense Laser. Armor is light for the class. The light cruiser also has two Cargo Bays. The ship is Unique with a Unit Size 1 and comes Moderately Damaged. As with all larger ships, it requires 1 Fuel to deploy.

It is the Design Phase.

In addition to providing an answer for the above, you can also propose Designs. Some guidance will be provided this turn in the form of feedback regarding difficulty and plausibility of proposals. Remember that you will be selecting Two Proposals.

Ok, the easy idea would be to take the ship now and fuel at the revision, but this is a fun opportunity to make an extremely boarding based ships, fast small ships that get in, take shit get out.So I vote A

While either A or B seem the most practical options, we’re buccaneers ain’t we so I say hell to the practical let’s raise the black flag over our new cruiser and let the galaxy learn to fear the name of the Black Hole Buccaneers

Not completely sure it's the least practical actually, more thinking it is something that will lose it's effect over time, unless we can upgrade it over time to be a stupidly cobbled together thing, because if that the case, then I take it

Well, it is, so C

The trouble is that could lock us into getting fuel from our backer, instead of money or the cool suits, and I'm all about that boarding.

Dagger ram
The problem with robbing ships is them trying to run away, or turn so their guns are on us, the goal of this ship is to make those options much less possible

The Dagger part of the name comes from the shape of the ship, fairly small with a narrowing front and a "guard" widening area near the base, the main effort of the ship would be put into the hardened tip and a powerful engine in the base.

The Ram part of the name come from it's functionality, when engaging with another ship it will try to have the hardened tip penetrate the ship either directly from the front or from the side in an angle, with the powerful for it size engines the hope is that a Dagger ram would make it harder for the target to fly away or maneuver to aim it's guns at the rest of the fleet.

Improved Boarding Party
The Basic boarding Party is uh, shall we say, underequipped.
The low velocity SMGs have been upgraded with substantially higher velocity and high capacity casket mags. The entire party also receives plate carriers and ceramic front plates to improve their overall odds of surviving, and actual assault training further improves survivability by making the other guy dead before he knows what's happening. Less materially useful they each receive a paint pot to customize their helmet and the jolly roger on each shoulder of their vacsuit. Furthermore, a squaddie receives training as a heavy weapons specialist equipped with a Flechette cannon, a multibarreled coilgun with an incredibly high rate of fire and modest armor penetration. A Breacher is trained to use breaching charges, and is given a few of them to create novel entry points through potentially hardened positions. They also receive a Gauss scattergun in place of their SMG, it fires flechettes (same as the cannon) bound together by a larger discarding sabot; naturally it's a pump -action both for reliability and because nothing beats the CHK-CHK of chambering a shell. The squad lead receives a Vibrocutlass, mostly as a badge of office, but they can slash a bastard quite well. ideally, 2 goons will be added to increase squad size to 10 because it's a nice round number.

Option C is very cool and all but I think would rob us of design ability because it is a net -2 resources per turn compared to the other options. We'd have the ship, but less ability to make our OWN ships, which is lame because this is an AR.

The Dagger Ram would be Hard, mostly due to the difficulties of constructing a ship meant to survive penetrating another.

The Improved Boarding Party is Theoretical, being a lot of big changes wrapped up into one package with no design experience yet.

Carrack-class Freighter
The Carrack is something we haven't made since "The Reaving," a freighter worth speaking about.
While it maintains a largely rectangular design, it is substantially larger than the makeshift freighter, and has more than the absolute bare minimum of systems. It can be fully pressurized and has standard docking ports to interface with allied vessels. The ship layout has the command deck right over the engines and fuel storage, with the modest crew quarters above that able to support 2 boarding parties along with the crew. The next two decks are cargo bays, terminating in a moderately armored nose with 3 30mm coilgun turrets.

Carrack would be on the low end of Very Hard on account of being your first proper ship that is generally just a step up from what you have available now.

This other Improved Boarding Party is Very Hard, as it is asking for a few varied somewhat significant additions to an existing unit.

Condor-Class Corvette
The Condor is our first dedicated combat ship.
while smaller than the freighter, and only lightly armored, it packs a punch with twin 60mm Coilguns spinally mounted on the craft give it a vicious punch. it's aerodyne form also includes wing pylons for heavy ordnance (heavy ordnance not included.) the four man crew consists of the pilot, co-pilot, engineer and weapon systems officer strapped into their chairs, even though the command deck is pressurized, the crew is advised to keep vacsuits on during combat operations. it's engines give it remarkable agility and reasonable acceleration for its class. the crew accommodations consist of a galley/bunk hybrid area (a foodpaste dispenser and one bunk bed) and an "airline restroom" beneath the command deck (while the command deck is horizontal to the axis of thrust for space-saving, the crew accommodations are vertical.) For this reason, Condors cannot be deployed over longs period without another vessel with a cargo bay.

Condor is juuuust Very Hard since the minimalist hull is offset by the larger coilgun size as well as repurposing of a coilgun to CIWS.
