Bio:
Once upon a time, Minato Date was an eye patch wearing, arm bandaging, edgy catchphrase shouting, true blue chuuni. Going by the title "Dark Emperor of the Lost Ones", he was known throughout the town as "The delusional Date kid" and was a rather frequent target of mockery among the other children for his refusal to admit to reality even under the harshest of bullying. His parents and teachers were worried for his ability to act properly in the future. His parents felt they were partially responsible, being one of the families responsible for maintaining the Iwatodai shrine, they had raised him on stories of the god of Iwatodai and other mystical ideas. They were just thankful that he had some people looking out for him. Satoshi Akamatsu and Hanako Saihara, along with their other friends, accepted the strange young man into their group and shielded him from the bullying he suffered at the hands of others. In return, Minato became a fervent devotee to the rest of the group, always willing to give his all to anything they asked of him, in his own odd way.
Then Hanako died.
When he heard the news, Minato locked himself in his room, refusing to open it no matter how much his parents begged and pleaded, desperately afraid of what their son might be doing at the loss of one of the few people who he had been able to grow close to. This went on for most of the day, until, as the sun set, the door finally opened, and out walked Minato Date, eye patch gone, bandages removed, hair dyed back to brown, and quietly asking his parents what was wrong. A check of his room found that all of Minato’s chuuni memorabilia had been thrown into a trash bag in the corner, while he stood, for all the world, the image of a perfectly normal young man.
The loss of Hanako had convinced Minato of some truths of the world he had never been able to accept before. There was no magic in the world, nothing mystical, occult, or divine, and certainly no way a stupid little kid could be able to use any such force. He was convinced that the world they lived in was one that hated beautiful and kind things, and would destroy them only for the crime of being perfect. For another person, this cynicism might have turned them away from any good deeds, convinced them that any heroism would only go unawarded and lead to a life of hardship, but Minato saw a different view. If this universe sought to destroy all beautiful things, then the universe was his enemy, and to spite it, he would become the kindest, noblest person that had ever existed.
He walked out of his room that night a very different boy than he had been when he entered. Gone was “the delusional Date boy”, and instead arrived “the young saint of Iwatodai”. His charming and affable air, along with his willingness to help anyone with anything when asked, earned Minato the admiration and respect of the children who used to torment him, even as he lost the group who had looked after him so long ago. Giving all the drive he had given to the occult to his school work, he swiftly made his way to among the top students of the school, and established the Helpers Club of Yadomi Memorial High, offering his all to aid with any request that was brought to him, all with a serene and kind air.
While he tried to maintain contact with all his former friends, the only one he’s really managed to keep with is Satoshi, who often helped him with Helpers Club requests. Nonetheless, he’s always ready and happy to help anyone with anything, and while he was unable to believe Satoshi’s claim that Hanako had come back, such things were impossible, of course, he came running as soon as he was called for.
