You raise a placating hand.
“I have heard that you have abducted the innocent and claimed they are wicked. Being entirely unholy myself, I would see the Truth of those claims,” Your eyes flare as you speak Truth, and you see the friar wince and turn away. You sense a deep guilt in him, one that he has long buried.
“You wish to see your compatriots in sin? Bring them out!” He shouts, and his thugs rush to grab his captives. They come out dirty and bruised, dressed in ragged shifts. The majority are young, two are elderly. The last however, strides out and shakes off her guards grip on her arm. Her mouth is gagged, and green eyes stare fiercely at the crowd.
If you had a (beating) heart, it would have sank, for she is undoubtedly a witch.
The youth, barely older than children, however, for the most part only have a small gift for magic,as far as you can tell. The elderly man and woman appear to your eyes to have some familiarity with potions and simple healing spells.
Clearly not deserving of death by any standard. You turn to the friar,
“Why do you parade these children before me? You must see that they are innocent.”
Gerus spits on the ground, “They bear the mark of evil on them! They must be cleansed of their wickedness, freed to do good!” Again, you sense that mixture of lies and truth.
Looking around, you see a scattering of young men and women, with intense hateful eyes, and a similar spark of magic to them. It is likely that they act as the friar’s eyes, spreading his net ever wider. He would “educate” the children he took, and burn the ones too old to be taught.
The witch catches your eye, and you can see a question and a rising hope in her own. She fairly glows with power, it must have been quite the coup to capture her.
You lock your gaze with the friar, and you loosen the hold on your powers. Fog and sulphuric vapors roil across the ground, and a heavy air of menace settles across the crowd. The friar, to his credit, meets your gaze and stands his ground as you-
A- Smite him with Truth. Overload his mind with the weight of unburied lies and self-deception.
B-Smite them all with Truth. Unload your fury on the guilty of the crowd as well.
C- Empower the friar to see not sins or stains, but instead the inner truth in people.
D- Curse him to only tell the truth, and be unable to hold to his self deceptions.
E- Something else?
The friar appears to be able to see those with magical talent, and targets them in his witch hunts. He twists the young into miniature versions of himself, and burns the older ones for public support.
