CHATTY: "Maybe you're trying too hard and Corwyll here just needs some time to mull it all over, you know?"

"I'm not a tryhard. I'm just worried about Corwyll's mindspace." Corwyll is the one to answer to that, starting with a snort.

"Yeah, and you've been in my mindspace all this time even when I don't want you there."

"No I'm not!"

"Yes, you are, ever since I had to dump Maria!"

"Fine, toss away my worry of you, don't you!" Natasha huffs and storms off.

Gering and Corwyll look at each other, and the latter groans.

"Only because I don't want a plasma cutter up my, you know." Gering chuckles as Corwyll storms off.

Gering then looks at you and pushes his glass towards you.

"Another of the same, please." You nod and pour him another shot of Cherrybomb. Beep-boop goes the scanner against his credchip. (+10c)

He calmly sips the pinkish-reddish synthol while sounds of yelling - briefly - come from behind the main gate.

"Don't sweat it, barkeep. The two are long overdue for an emotional heart-to-heart chat. Maybe this will be it." He explains and turns towards the gate - and you notice how silent it got there.

Gering turns back to you.

"It will do good for both of them, you know."

A) "Is Samel a bad boss or something?"
B) "So what's the story here?"
C) Nod along in silence.

"So what's the story here?"

"Well, Corwyll has a girlfriend. I mean, had."

"I've gathered."

"So this girl, Maria, is really into body mods. You know, skin pigmentation, nano-wigs, extra 'equipment' down there, eye implants, prehensile appendages, that sort of thing."

"Uh-huh."

"And one day she is all like 'Hey Corwyll I think you would look great with boobs.' And of course Corwyll isn't very plussed on that, because, you know, bodymodding outta the blue."

"I see. So he dumped her because of that?"

"No, no, you see... Corwyll, I mean, he ain't kinky, but he was willing to experiment. She prodded him and asked him and reasoned with him and after some time the boy decides 'why not, I don't like it, I get the boobs off.' It's just a body mod, after all."

"Right."

"But imagine his surprise when he gets to gene-clinic and Maria is all like 'let's make you a girl, just for few weeks' and of course Corwyll is totally against it, there was supposed to be boobs-mod only."

"Oh..."

"So Corwyll doesn't usually yell, he is quite timid, but I've heard he made such a big scene out of it that Fedpols had to arrive and restore order. But the girl had the balls, methaporically speaking, to accuse him of being 'modphobic' and 'belonging to a purity group', that he is the abusive part in the relationship, and all that terrible stuff. She swore she will drag him before the court and win this one way or another."

"Wait, did he actually abuse Maria?"

"Doesn't seem to be in Corwyll's nature, but I don't know how their every-days went."

"So why would she explode like that?"

"She really seemed to want, I dunno, a guy with boobs or girl with dick to sleep with, maybe body transformation is her secret kink or something?"

"Why wouldn't she date someone who comes with the right equipment, mod or otherwise?"

"Well, 'someones' aren't Corwyll."

"Ah."

"Yeah. He packed up, left Coral II and joined our ship two weeks ago just to get away from Maria. He has been sulking ever since, because, you know, besides all this mod-mess, he really loved the girl. Said he was head over heels for her."

"I see..." You rub your temples in consternation.

You briefly wonder if human relationships get this bad all the time.

B) "What about Natasha?"
C) "Is Corwyll's home at Coral II?"
D) "I don't think Maria could win such a case?"

"What about Natasha?"

"Oh, she's also from Coral II. Corwyll's childhood friend. Has hots for him, but Corwyll's hella oblivious and Natasha is too shy to try and ask him out because that 'might ruin everything'."

"That sounds..."

"Stupid, you wanna say? I would agree. I coulda play matchmaker but I dunno Corwyll that well and Natasha doesn't want me to, so." He raises his hands in defeat.

A) "Is Corwyll's home at Coral II?"
B) "How do you know all this?"
C) "I don't think Maria could win such a case?"

"How do you know all this?" Gering grins and places his hands on the counter.

"Natasha's part, she just told me. We've been working together onboard Dominion for almost half a year now. We talked one day about love and significant others and she talked about Corwyll."

"And Corwyll?"

"Well, three days after he joined we made a stop on one of your outposts for drinks, boss paid for them as usual, but Corwyll was in such a dump so I thought 'man, this guy looks like he needs another drink', so I bought him a cherrybomb. And then another. And he started talking, and I kept ordering him cherrybombs because I realized he needs not only a drink, but to talk his heart out. So I sat there, listening to his story, keeping him watered so to speak till he was done. Boss almost kicked us out cuz we stayed an hour over there."

A) "Corwyll left his home at Coral II?"
B) "So could Maria win against Corwyll in a court?"
C) "Thanks for the story, I guess."
