Maybe she was just saying things and not getting the right point across, all elbow grease and no blueprints.

"Ugh. I get it, I've been hit and beaten and knocked down before. Big deal. Just, being the only one laid out back there..."

"I don't want anyone thinking my machine's flawed. It works perfectly like it should, it's not supposed to do everything at once."

: If it's any consolation, the machine works well according to what I've seen. Too well, even, so you should make sure it doesn't fall in the wrong hands, gangs or otherwise.

: But this is a lesson you should do well to learn now. There is no such thing as cowardice and honor in Uhambra's streets, there's people who live and people who get killed. No amount of intimidation, social decorum or technical detail will save you if someone does decide to take one of you to hell with them, I've seen it happen too many times.

: Focus on getting some rest for the night, no healing is complete without that.

~~Chapter 1: A Prelude to Just Another Day~~

"To anyone not familiar with the city, the events of this day would seem like the thing you don't see every day, something special to remember.

Let me dispell that notion for you. These kind of things are a regular occurrence, with the only remotely unique part being the people involved."

The next day, the headquarters were as busy as ever. Sergeant Angstrom reunited the six recruits in a briefing room again.

: I hope you're all well rested because today there's going to be some real work. But first, distribute these among you.

Party gets 5 Vulneraries!

: I know these aren't enough for all of you to have one, but there's no more budget for it. Valric, I understand you can also use a sword, but the same problem applies. I can have a sword for you but I'd have to trade in one of those.

"It isn't of great concern for me, I can well live without these. Except if i should carry one, just in case one of my allies might need it?"

Elyna looked around her fellow recruits and seemed to be searching for something, although it was not entirely clear what that something was. Maybe a certain reaction, or a specific phrase.

Watson takes one of the vulneraries, before turnining to Elyna.
"Don't be a hero. For practicality's sake, take one. If nothing else, it would make the good sister's job easier."

Rykvaard took one. Even if he wasn't planning on needing to use it, he also wasn't going to die out there on the streets. He had good reasons to keep himself alive.

"We have to make use of what resources are allotted to us."

"So this place barely has the budget to arm folks up...And I am guessing whoever is financially supporting us has no intentions of changing that."
"Keep the sword. Depending of how things go, I will look for my rapier."

Vervain smiled approvingly at Watson and Rykvaard's words.
"Already I like you all more than the last lot."

The chain-smoking Sister reached over and picked up two of the little vials. She sloshed them slowly, hearing the medicine inside, before gently pushing one into Elyna's hands. The other disappeared into her vestments.
"Here, darling," she said. "I can't be everywhere at once, after all. Ah, since there's only five vials - may I recommend Miss Laporta is the one without? Yesterday aside, they should be less likely to be injured at the rear, yes?"

"Even if that would be the case, i'm sure you will provide for her adequately Sister."

The "Knight" said as she looked at the vial of medicine, contemplating of how much use it might be, before storing it inside her Coat.

"As long as I'm not the only one that's always left out when it comes to supplies," Nicoletta said lightly. A night's sleep had done well for her mood and confidence. Like the sergeant had said, her machine worked well, was fine in their eyes.

And as long as the guard kept thinking that, she was fine too. She was going to keep it that way.

: Very well. Now, for today's job, listen closely because it starts early. There's a raid today-

The door suddenly opened and a heavily armored man walked through.

: Allow me to expedite the explanation, old man, I'm tired of waiting.

"Being as overbearing as he looked was difficult, but Captain Logan pulled it off seamlessly. A true knight in shining armor, as long as he didn't think of you as beneath him, in which case he'd give you as much attention and care as the dirt he stepped on."

: We're raiding the slums to the south, deep in Bull territory, and by "we" I mean my squad. You newbies wouldn't last for a second there, so you'll be standing guard in one of the alleys to keep the heats off our backs. Not that we'd have a problem if we ended up surrounded but I don't want any more bitching about massacres or whatnot. Understand? Now chop chop, I want to catch these bastards sleeping. Without waiting for an answer, the man left as abruptly as he arrived. The sergeant sighed before continuing.

: Right, that was Captain Logan of the Dragoon Squad. If you think that was bad, you should see him in a bad mood. Back to your job, as he said you'll be keeping watch in this particular location. Angstrom pointed to a map, identifying one of the streets on the south side of the city. The location isn't too far away from the Gran Via but it's still far enough that there isn't much in the terms of patrolling. If you can do both, great, but your main job is keeping people from entering this other street while the raid is ongoing. Angstrom pointed to a street that lead to a marked location further south. Questions?

Was there perhaps a hint of a sigh from the Sister when Logan burst in? Surely not. Either way, she spoke once he'd left.
"Captain Logan. Consider him a reminder from God on the virtues of temperance and humility."

After the Sergeant finished talking, the nun exhaled a cloud of fragrant smoke, remmants trickling from her mouth like a dragon.
"No questions from me, darling."
