I put some thought into the idea of improving our structures earlier, as it struck me as the only clearly natural expansion phase tech with our current tech and resources, but I couldn't actually think of any real benefit with our position as stated. Worse, if we were to take on a semi-nomadic (that is to say, cyclical pattern of settling and moving, as with many savannah communities) pattern of living, it could ultimately be harmful. With that said, if the lake area turns out to be particularly fertile, adapting a semi-nomadic nature may never be necessary, and I suspect this will probably be the case.

But then it's probably best just to get to the lake.

As for tribe name, savannas proper seem to be most common in Africa and, actually, South America (specifically the Cerrado of Brazil). I elected to do research off of indigenous Brazilian peoples; I am admittedly aiming to contrast with the inspiration game again here (which drew inspiration from West Africa's Sahel region), but I think also that most people haven't even heard of these peoples at all so it might be interesting to go with in that respect.

I elected to toy around with Old Tupi (the language used by the large majority of indigenous Brazilian tribes on the coast), and though I haven't found a dictionary presently, I've found a site with a good amount of info: https://en-academic.com/dic.nsf/enwiki/196064 Accordingly, I'll take the word for water ("y"), note that according to the site, some Tupi tribes called their land "where there will be palm trees" ("pindo-rama", which is "palm tree" ("pindo" plus a future aspect, "rama")), and note that the word for village is "taba", and go for "water where there will be villages", or as far as I can see, "ytabarama".

But I'm going to fuck around with that a bit; attaching us directly to a language without a dictionary would be difficult, and it also feels like it would be a bit disrespectful to just flagrantly paste a bunch of Old Tupi words all over the thread considering it was an actively suppressed indigenous language, rather than being inspired by it - mutating "ytabarama" into "Ybatara".

(Also at least one person in the Discord wanted to delay naming until we did something of sufficient note so I'm putting that into the votebox too).

I was gonna vote Delay, but then again, it's just a name. If it makes MoP feel better, it can't hurt.

Me trying a few pronunciations after m sent me a video of a dude explaining Old Tupi phonology and we watched it (and likely butchering it, but, y'know, I tried):

https://voca.ro/1n0V1ctvHYiC Me attempting the "Tupi" root I made up, ytabarama

https://voca.ro/14cpJW1RJ5uT Attempting Ybatara with Tupi phonology (which means the b is fricative, the r is rolled, and the y is this fucking vowel: "ɨ", all of which I well may have fucked)
https://voca.ro/1jrGQ6c4a7AV With the y vowel changed out for something a little more easily pronounced by an English tongue

I'd rather not saddle ourselves with a name with baggage- like, if this name is gonna define our naming system for the rest of the game, I don't want to have to spend thirty minutes researching Tupi pronunciations each time. So I made up a name by picking letters from titles of books on a bookshelf.

While the reticence re: Tupi naming is 100% understandable and something I saw coming, I don't think I'll want to swing to that other extreme myself and will probably just would want to delay naming rather than have a literally random name.

Have we considered Swahili if we are going with a real world language?
Largest Bantu (Savanna!) language and it’s used more as a lingua franca than any particular group’s mother tongue, so it won’t feel like copy-pasting a real culture.

I unironically like Ybatara with Tupi pronunciation.
