On a warm, late spring day, at Wachttoren Manor...
Two ladies - one clad in armor, other in finery - were walking down the corridor. Cecilia van de Wachttoren, the daughter of the lords of the manor, and her childhood friend, a royal princess of Galia - Marie-Jeanne de Gallia, twentieth in line to the throne, and one of nieces of the current Gallian Emperor.
Marie spoke into Cecilia's ear, who shuddered in disbelief.
"What!? No way!!" "This be truth, though!" Cecilia shook her head.
"Truly disgusting behavior! And you say he was caught with his mistress on the night of the wedding feast?" "Ayes! Imagine the scandal - King of Angeborten sleeping with his mistress while his new wife is frantically looking for him." "Inconceivable... oh, poor de Ruyter girl!" Marie-Jeanne stopped in her tracks.
"Oh! You know the current Queen of Angeborten??" Cecilia waved her hand in denial, and the two continued their walk.
"Ah, no, no, never seen the girl. But family's territory is to the east of my family's, and we visited them few times when I was younger. Her parents must be especially furious and ashamed, though. Having your daughter marry the king of a foreign country, only to find him cheating on her with another woman on the same day? It's already a small and struggling family, to be dishonored like this... such terrible fate." "That man disgraced both his first and current wife, and I heard he is unable to perform tasks of governance well. My brothers believe the Angebortians were better off under the previous Queen, despite all the issues her Consort created..." Cecilia chuckled, then shrugged.
"That woman was a scoundrel of her own kind. We can't really be judges for this, though - never been in Angerboten and haven't talked with people from there." Marie-Jeanne let out a tired sigh.
"Neither have I. Oh, I pray the Light spares those poor Angebortians any more misfortune. That country suffered so much in recent times..." Cecilia nodded in silent agreement, and pushed at the door with her shoulder.
The two stepped out into the courtyard, were several people and three mounts - a horse and pair of pegasi - were waiting.
"Must you go, Cecilia? Surely, common soldier and guard can deal with some bandits. Or you could send word to your brother, the commander..." Cecilia grimaced, approaching her pegasus, petting his mane.
"Nay! I must avenge the honor of the holy maidens as soon as possible." "Cecilia-" "To violate and rob three Sisters, unarmed and defenseless, in broad daylight? And leave them to die of wounds and exposure at the side of a road? Divine providence had those good travelers passing by, lest those girls have perished and their assailants avoided justice." Cecilia gripped harder on the reins of her pegasus.
"The lives of those worms are forfeit! And I will personally see to it." "Please, be careful." "Oh, don't worry! They won't even lay a finger on me." Cecilia smiled to her long-time friend, and mounted her pegasus, accepting the lance from one of stable boys who kept the mounts in check.
"Stefan, Lijsbeth! Are you ready?" Cecilia turned to her companions... and then looked to the left, and right, and behind her.
"Wait, where is Levi?"//Stefan Daalmans, Levi van de Aardemar, and Lijsbeth de Lange are now active!
