Scoops of Novel: The Judgementing
« on: June 21, 2022, 07:30:54 am »

What is Novel? Why is Novel?

Is this glibness of a troll? Self-important pseudo-intellectualism? Random bot-like effusions? An academic running a social experiment?
Or is it the only thing keeping the lower boards from descending into elderly senility? An injection of oddness to wake up the rigid minds. A thing that keeps you coming back for more. An always welcome, clickable distraction.
Can it be both?

I don't know. Do you know?
Does Novel know?

It's the forum equivalent of gold prospecting.

I've been reluctant to reply to any of the threads for a lack of anything meaningful to say, and I generally like to adhere to the idea of "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all."

Long story short, the last thread about debating the difference between synonyms and the other thread about the connected guy remind me a lot of troll threads my brother used to make on some other forum 20+ years ago.  That said, it reads more like bored spam devoid of context instead of actual trolling.

I guess spending time trying to decipher the meaning of them is thought provoking in its own way, but probably not in the intended manner.

Novel is a pet project of a researcher who worked for Google years ago. The server was left running by accident.

I am sorry for the thing I typed here, Novel. Joke crossed the line.

No offence taken!

Context: I've been ill for the past 6 months and this is the best I can do.

On the other hand, I feel no shame.

Some days it's indistinguishable from a bot. All days the particularly contentless ones warrants a hypnotoad. The train is on, now, it only stops at ribbity death.

Novel combats against the old forum culture of massive but few general threads that last for years by advocating the direct opposite: multiple pointed threads that last maybe a day or two

Doesn't a thread have to have a point to be pointed?

As you can plainly see by looking at pages in the back, way of multiple threads is even older.  :P

Fuck those threads. They sometimes make it hard to see proper ones.

Novel reminds me of old me from 2017-2019. The Cringe Era.

Except they're less destructive. I'll give them that. I don't really mind their threads.

The Novel treads are an important part of the forum ecosystem, if they were to disappear a number of forumites might go extinct!

The question at hand seems to be whether they're not an invasive species.
