Behold, my second attempt at adventuring!
Behold it! I took some advice from you guys in that I took a good amount of time to train up ambushing and throwing before I did anything else. As you'll read below, it was a lifesaver.
I once again began in the world of Udon Tadin, The Domain of Enchanting. My name is Mong Syruppoke, and I am a human of Kamcamong. My initial layout wound up as follows (based on my skill selections):
Attributes:
Strong
Very Tough
Skills:
Skilled Swordsman
Skilled Shield User
Skilled Armor User
Thrower
Novice Ambusher
Equipment:
Iron Scimitar
Iron Shield
Iron chain leggings, mail
Iron Helm, Gauntlets, Boots
Leather vest and loincloth
As usual, I begin by talking to the mayor of Tangledthorns, Lic Scoldsupper. Speaking for The Flowery League, he bade me travel to The Shaft of Language. It was here that the Cyclops Uja Spikepant lived.
I spent a good amount of time in the town in order to train up my skill in ambushing and throwing. I won't bore you with talk of my training, but I will say that by the end of my exploits in the town, I was a Legendary+ Thrower, an Expert Ambusher, Very Strong, Very Agile, and Unbelievably Tough.
I met High Priest Githa Rapidscrubbed at The Monastery of Laws. She tells me to pray to Stalcon, but he never talks back.
Night falls, and I get to witness a peasant choke a Rhesus Macaque until it falls unconscious, at which point he beats it to death. During the night I have some difficulty training, as the water in my canteen and all of the surrounding lakes freezes during the night. I eventually had to take small breaks to Travel around for water/food.
As morning rises, a flying iron arrow strikes another Rhesus Macaque in the head, piercing the entire way through. Naturally it was dead, having been shot and killed by some guard outside of my visual range.
The day (and my training) continues, when suddenly a peasant decides to punch a horse. The horse rears back, kicking the peasant in the chest. The peasant charges, punching the horse in its lower body. Unfortunately for her, she collided with the horse and was knocked over. The horse used this opportunity to step on the peasant's foot, badly bruising two toes. Adding injury to insult, the horse also breaks the peasants left shin. The peasant rises from her stunned state, only to be kicked in the upper body. Although she was having
trouble breathing, she again attempted to punch the horse. The shot glanced away, and the horse kicked her again, breaking her left lower arm. The peasant gives in to pain, and the horse really goes to town on her, bruising and battering the poor woman all over. She briefly regains consciousness, only to have her upper body collapse into a lump of gore upon impact with the horses hoof. I decide to keep my eyes open for horses so that one day I may avenge Jirdo, the peasant woman.
But wait! The horse isn't done! Thrown into an apparent blood frenzy, it then attacks and kills a small child! I am now duty-bound to find this vile steed. I roam the outskirts of town for a long time, searching for any sign of the horse or the corpses of its victims. Just as I am about to give up hope in my hunt for the horse, I hear a commotion - another peasant has fallen victim. My
search is redoubled, but night begins to fall. As day fades, so do my chances of finding the evil horse. I continue looking, undeterred. Several more peasants and a priest fall victim before The Merchant Princess manages to fell the vile beast, who at this point was named Fensastespir Jomsaatir.
The horse defeated, I make my way to The Shaft of Language to kill the cyclops Uja Spikepant. After a bit of exploring, I manage to sneak up on the cyclops thanks to my training in ambushing. From a few tiles away, I throw a small granite rock at the beast, which strikes her square in the upper body. The upper body is bruised, and the cyclops's liver and upper spine are both also badly bruised. On top of that, the cyclops is now having trouble breathing! Subsequent shots are less effective, all glancing away. I soon run out of stones to throw, and am forced to throw some loamy sand. Fortunately enough, this shot bruises the cyclops's right shoulder. At this point she finally spots me, and we fight back and forth for some time. She charges, and I am stunned. While I am out of commission, she mangles my sword arm, leaving me without a weapon. I survive for a time by throwing sand at her, until eventually she charges again. This time I am able to dodge away and make it to my sword, which had been laying on the ground behind the beast. Unable to wield the sword, I do
what I'm best at and throw it:
quote:
The spinning Iron Scimitar strikes The cyclops in the head!
It is cut!
The cyclops's right ear has been badly cut!
The cyclops's left ear has been badly cut!
The cyclops's throat has been slashed out!
I could not have asked for a better shot - a new smile that is literally ear to ear. At this point, the cyclops is alive, but she is winded, in pain, tired, and bleeding heavily. At this point, dear reader, you and I both know that the fight is over. No matter what happens, the cyclops will be dead. Unfortunately, she did not get the memo. She continually charges at me, eventually wresting away my waterskin (which she then procedes to hit me with). Now I am tired, though she is Faint from exertion and lack of proper breathing. She makes one final charge, but I am able to jump away. The cyclops, Uja Umilrujit, falls to the ground dead from exsanguination.
I grab my belongings (and the corpse of the cyclops) and begin to make my way out of the cave. That's when the ratman spots me. I turn a corner and begin to sneak, not wanting to get into another fight while I still remain unable to use my sword. It works, and I am able to return safely to town. Not only have my wounds healed, but I learn that during my conflict with the beast, I gained some skill in Wrestling and became more agile!
And so, after my first quest, here's how Mong Syruppoke is doing:
Attributes:
Very Strong
Extremely Agile
Unbelievably Tough
Speed: 1369
Skills:
Skilled Swordsman (0/900) - No skill gains due to injury
Skilled Shield User (617/900)
Skilled Armor User (246/900)
Legendary+ Thrower (870/2100)
Expert Ambusher (728/1300)
Novice Wrestler (124/600)
Gear:
Iron Scimitar
Iron Shield
Iron chain leggings, mail
Iron Helm, Gauntlets, Boots
Leather vest, loincloth, and cape! (I grabbed the cape off of one of the horse's victims)
I think I've finally gotten the hang of the basics of adventure mode. In retrospect, had I known how easy it was to train ambushing and throwing, I would have used those points somewhere more useful (like Armor User or Sword User). Nonetheless, I now have a successful adventurer. My next trip, regardless of the mayor's whims, will be to go back to that cave and slaughter some ratmen. I'm backing up my save after every major adventure, simply because I don't really have the time to retrain ambushing and throwing every time I want to roll a new guy. Plus, it would be kind of demoralizing to lose a great adventurer to a random lucky shot.
Still, I wish I could have found and killed that horse. I still have no idea where it was. It would be nice if we could be told from which direction the incoming announcements were being made, that way we could have a chance of helping.
Anyway, thanks for all the help guys. Once I feel more confident, I'll try learning how to wrestle. Seems complicated.
