One might think Athena is the deity of losing, weak and diplomatic.  One need only look at the ententes of the present day.  Soft power, projection of power, are far more important than Ares's arts of war.

I'm pretty sure Kojima made 2-5 games about this.

Still.  I respect and pray to Ares as I do Athena.
You never know when the detente will collapse.

To be fair in almost every instance where Ares and Athena have a contest in epics and plays, Athena fucking trounces Ares and it's not even close. Ares is just the guy who fights, but Athena is the one who thinks. Sure she'll lose in a 1vs1 against Ares, but she'll just call Diomedes and have him beat the shit out of Ares whilst waylaying all of Ares's sons. Having wisdom and strategy on your side has a serious force multiplier effect on any forces you have; and poor Ares could use some of that wisdom given the amount of times he gets into shit with Hephaestus or Zeus. I think it would be more revolutionary and surprising if I stumbled on a play where Ares didn't get 5d underwater backgammon strip poker chess'd to death by Athena
